What warbird? I'm not familiar with that particular Magnum engine but I'd think a .70 4-stroke would be more like it. I could be wrong though.
Hobby People has a smoking deal on the .70's right now.

phoenix spitfire, and I don't think magnum makes it anymore. It gets good reviews in the user section on here and I think I can get it for 120.

I had a Magnum .61. It's a fairly good engine, but no more power than the .52 4-stroke. Mine never seemed to have any compression. I sent it back and they worked it over, but it was still light on compression. Don't get me wrong, it ran well, but just didn't have a really tight ring seal.
I would compare the power to a plain bearing 40 like the OS .40LA or TT .42GP. Not nearly as much as a .46.
I also have the Mag .70, .91 and 1.20 4-strokes. They all run well. The 70 is like the OS .70 I have, a sweet running engine.
Personally, I would skip the Mag .61 and get something slightly larger.

Brett - its a junk engine. You really need to send it up to me to put on another trainer (jk).
I had a student who had a Magnum .61 RFS on a trainer and the performance was less than a stock Evolution .45 PTS. He seemed to have some problems keeping it running reliable at the time.
I have a Magnum .70 RFS destined for a Venus 40 and have been told it appears to have a bit more power than the OS .46 AX (it'll swing a bigger prop and have more torque, but not quite the speed a .46 AX will provide).

If budget allows, go for the 70 at Hobby People. My brother tried the 61 on an Ultra Stick 40 and was not happy. He replaced it with a 70 and was happy.

Thanks guys, I was this close >< to buying it. I'll rethink my options now, I just really want a 4 stroke.[sm=cry_smile.gif]

That Magnum .70 is not bad at all. I owned one. It wasn't quite as nice as the OS, YS and Saito engines but it doesn't cost nearly as much as those either. For what you pay, it is a very good engine.

The 61 I have is a great running engine, very reliable.
Having said that it sits in a box in the closet.
I know a lot of people love their 50 class four strokes but for me they just don't have enough power.
I like the 70 and larger sized four strokes though.
Look for the good sale price on the Magnum 70, it is a great running engine and would do a 40 size warbird proud.

Never had that specific engine, however I have a Magnum 52 , and a 91. The 91 is great, It's been in my shoestring for 5 years and have never hand any problems with it. very reliable. The 52 is in a 40 sized mustang, and it's pretty finicky. It has enough power to fly the plane, but I'd go bigger.
