Jim,
SPADS are supposed to be cheap, but you could invest in a muffler and an exhaust deflector. Your Debonair will idle better and run more reliably with muffler pressure on the fuel tank.

RE: lets see your dirty planes
i have a muffler on it and exhaust deflectors mess everything up...i dont like em...would rather clean a plane (and it looks cool [8D] )
yes the muffler was loose and i tightened it (notice how it was pointed twards the fuse not away) seemed to help, i took it up today and it wasnt as bad. its also a new engine (a magnum .46 from hobbypeople for 50 bucks) and i was keeping it rich so thats the real problem.
os four strokes, or four strokes in general, wont like running on 6.75 a gallon fuel, no nitro all castor fuel. i will try the fuel (commonly known as JimmyJuice) in my magnum .91 fs when i build my ultrasport just for kicks. if it runs ok i will keep useing it.

Hi jimmyjames213 When aluminum rubs against aluminum, aluminum powder results, which shows up as black oily stuff on your plane. Everything on the engine and muffler needs to be ALWAYS tight. Otherwise you can lose muffler pressure and have engine problems. You need to use blue Loctite on all muffler threads, and a high temperature silicone sealant on the muffler to engine flanged joint. Any leak in that area means you need to repeat everything. The plane stays much cleaner and the engine will be more reliable.

Land on the runway and not the cornfield and you won't have a dirty plane!
And I totally agree on the 4 stroke engines. Very little oil to wipe off.

Turbine's are even cleaner. I recommend it.

Fly an OS 4-stroke and you won't have an oily plane.

RE: lets see your dirty planes
here are the pics i promised
a few mods i would do...v1.5
screw the screws from the top so you dont have the heads rubbing on the ground, and place the 2 mounting pieces next to one another, not with a space (for the landing gear...it doesnt make a difference just takes longer to put on with it spread appart)

RE: lets see your dirty planes
I bought a used 72" QQ Yak. Notice the dirty muffler and dirt on the tires, Plus, if you look real close you'll see little specks of dirt and small defects in some spots.
I cleaned the muffler in a hot crockpot full of antifreeze and show an after picture too so dirty/not so dirty although the tires still have some dried mud on them

Here is my dirty trainer. Not that bad with a deflector, but don't wanna loose any power
(The reason you can see a little leaks on the muffler, is that it is a completely new engine).

Turn the outlet of your muffler away from the plane.
It looks like it is pointed directly at it.

This was after the first run with that engine. So I tightened it when the engine was hot, so now it doesn't turn anymore
