Default FUEL PUMP

Anybody ever tried to use a windshield washer pump for a fuel pump?

I use several for smoke pumps. I don't see whay it wouldn't work - but I wouldn't use it for Gasoline, just glow fuel

I come across quite a few and the washer fluid is flamable, so I figured I'd try it. Just finished testing my bushing to see if is was fuel proof or if the glow fuel would eat/swell it, so far so good.

I wondered about the same thing, never gave it a try though. When I was still building sand rails we were using an electric fuel pump made by Facet. It was discovered by some of the guys burning alcohol for fuel that the pumps weren't lasting very long? Seems the alcohol would dry out the rubber or soften it and the pumps would start loosing pressure or the nylon pump ball would spin on the shaft? Anyway, I hope you try it and let us know sometime down the road how it works out for you. I use the small hand crank pumps designed for glow for my gas pumps without any problems. Nothing in them besides a plastic impeller.

I think some washer fluid actually contains methanol so I imagine it would work for glow fuel.

Back in the 60's and 70's it was common pratice to use them as fuel pumps. In fact in the early 70's Sullivan came out with a 1/2 gallon fuel tank with an attached fuel pump which was a windshield wiper fuel pump.

Well, I finally assembled it all and the windshield washer pump leaked like crazy. I will try another when I get it, but this one did not have any problem before the glow fuel. At least the seal/grommet worked.

That may tell us why our rubber wiper blades don't last like they used to??? I gave up using the window squirter and my blades on my van have lasted 10 years now??

I know they use methane in glow fuel, and we use 60% in our washer fluid, but something in the glow fuel ate right through the washer pump. took about 4 seconds before it started leaking.
