Looking for a giant scale trainer
Hi guys, Im looking for a big trainer for use as a club hack, I’d like something that’s good for beginners to intermediate pilots. I’d like something that’s high wing, with flaps, a tail dragger in the 30cc and up range. Plenty of fuel for long flights and/or quick turnarounds would be a plus. Obviously it has to be rugged, and I’d prefer a kit so it’s easier to repair or rebuild. If you have any suggestions, I’d really appreciate your input. Thanks Smokey |

I can think of two options off the top of my head:
1) A Sig Kadet Sr with a gas engine rather than a nitro. There are gas engines made that are small enough to fit this plane, not to mention that ailerons and flaps can be easily added to the wings during construction 2) A Sig Kadet MKII or Senior built from plans that are enlarged up to the desired size with the wing mods mentioned in option 1. Granted, you would have to add wing ribs and framing to the design but that would be easy changes to make during construction. Both options also allow the easy conversion to a tail dragger as it's done all the time by people building them |
A Senior Telemaster might fit the bill. If you adjust some tip and fin outlines and make a cub shaped engine cowl it would be stand off scale.
Laser cut kits are available. |
Thanks for the input guys I’m leaning towards the SFK, for some reason I thought it was unavailable but it’s not...I have to start wearing my glasses when checking the net |
What about the Maxford USA trainer designed for gas engines.

The AMR Trainer 20, 26, and 50 are worth a look.
