DX6i, 7 servos and I want flaps please!!!

Hi guys, I've been flying a few weeks, started on leccy SC, Trojan then a 60 inch Cub. I'm now onto IC[sm=biggrin.gif]

Here is my problem...

I have to set up flaps on my DX6i and a Blackhorse Chipmunk.

I have:
Elevator 1 Servo
Rudder 1 servo
Throttle 1 servo
Aileron 2 servos into Y lead
Flaps 2 Servo. 1 servo into Gear and 1 servo into Aux on RX

I'm now stuck on getting this working. I also tried flaps on a Y lead into Gear on the RX but they go in different directions I guess I could simply turn a servo round but that's not how I want it done, it would mean moving drilled linkage points and so on, far to messy and would look less symmetrical.

Can this be done somehow please??

Cheers for any help.

Alex

Change the pushrod on one servo to the other side. So when you look at the servos you will see that the pushrods are on the same side, not opposite like ailerons.

A reversing "Y" harness will also do the trick if you really don't want to change your current setup.

Use a regular Y for the flaps too, but make sure the control rods come off the same side. Then the AUX is where you hook up the flaps.
If you dont' want to do this, then you may be able to slave the gear to the AUX through one of the mixes, just put it on mix one--AUX--->Gear. Turn the gear switch off, and use the AUX switch to activate the flaps. But you will have to mix them opposite, so at -100%. Once you get to programming it, that will make sense. This works better than a reversing Y because the servos tend to hold their neutral positions better. I never had any luck with reversing Y's because I was constantly having to adjust the pot trying to get the two surfaces lined up.
Like I said, I dont' know if your radio will let you mix channels 5 & 6 together with 6 being the master, but if it will, you can do it that way.

Reading through the [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo/Files/SPM6600_DX6i_Manual-LoRes.pdf]DX6i manual[/link] it shows that the radio does have a flap function in it. This will control the flap channel on the receiver. You should then be able to set up a mix to slave the aux channel to the flap channel, but with the servo reversed. This should let you control both flap servos with the radio and get the proper throws out of it.

Actually the AUX channel IS the flap channel.

But you have it essentially right.

He needs to add a mix that takes input from the AUX/FLAP channel and mixes it to the gear.

Then in the gear throw adjustments he sets that to ZERO for both postitive and negative. The latter prevents the gear switch from having any effect.
The mix will cause the flaps to move in unison, if one goes the wrong way he can use the channel direction switch to adjust. Endpoint and centering for each of the two respective channels, will control those functions for fine tuning.

Opjose,
Thanks for the clarification. I was reading the manual and you know that somethings things like that are missed.

That's it. I knew that channel 6 is flaps for JR radios (most radios, I think). So he would want to control them with the AUX channel and slave the gear channel to it at -100%. In the initial setup (when you hold down the buttons while turning on the radio to set the channel name, flaperon options, etc) that is where you can disable the gear switch without having to set the travel to zero. At least that is how it is on all of the other 6 channel JR radios that I have owned. Should be the same.
Of course, if you run the push rod off the same side as the other flap servo, then you can slave the channel at +100%.
