Default Chris Craft 17' Cavalier

Just thought I'd post this photo, representing the past 6 years of my hobby life. Its a 1955 Chris Craft 17' Cavalier Utility. The Cavalier line was a factory mfg of the old kit boat line CC had. It's actually solid plank stock mahagony board framing, & a beautiful mayahgony plywood deck & topsides, with fir ply bottom. Power is a CC 1964 283 cu in Chevy V8.

Truth be told, I find building & flying model airplanes more enjoyable & am getting back into my planes.

Beautiful!!!

Do you have any before pics? I am starting a resto project on my 1983 Eliminator Daytona with a kevlar hull, but I am sure it will not be anywhere close to the time you have invested in that. I hope to be done in 6 weeks, just fresh paint, interior, and slight engine mods.

Thanks for good words.

Don't really have before photos....was a mistake, hull wood was in good shape & ...but everything else needed work such as all new floorboards/seat wood, new windshield, and all sorts of odds & ends that make wood boats quite the hobby.

Best of luck with your boat!

Man that is one good looking boat. I've always loved the old mahogany runabouts. Every now and then I see them on the Delaware River and they really turn heads. Thats cool it has the 289 instead of the Greymarine six alot of them came with; I bet it really sounds good too. Lets see some more pics! Hey Wrecks, are you on speedwake.com?

Glad you like the old woodies. The Chevy 283 cu in / 185hp V8 engine was factory/dealer retrofitted in 1964, replacing a 125hp flathead six. The V8 is 200lbs lighter, a 60hp increase & great on fuel. Its a blast! There is a bit of celebrity factor....yet I find working on & flying the model aiplanes more challenging & more fun. I must be nuts!!!

Pictures are on Lauderdale Lakes in So Ea Wisconsin.

I've had a passion for the old speedboats since I was a kid and did have a 1947 18' chris utility at one time. I prefer the prewar boats as they were better built and had more style. I'm about ready to give up the planes and go back to my first love but boy have they gotten expensive! Here's a 1938 chris at St Michaels Maryland.
