Default World Models P-51 Mustang - EP - What is a good electric motor

I have the World Models P-51 Mustang - EP and would like to know what's the best upgrade motor to get for this plane that would really make it fly good. I have flown it with the brushless motor that came with it -the KM0283010 Outrunner Motor which is okey but is there better.

I was looking at this one at HK http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ess_Motor.html

What size prop suits that plane best? I can't imagine that "same Kv" HK motor being a "huge" improvement ......if you want more speed you'd need to run the HK motor on 4s with perhaps a 7x7 or 8x6 prop drawing 160W-200W..... or get a somewhat higher Kv motor to get speed from 3s.

I used the stock folding prop that came with the kit I don't know what size that is I think it's a 9x5 but not sure. The HK motor is 210 watt and the stock brushless is 180watt both are 1000kv I don't know is that makes the HK motor and upgrade. I do have a Exceed RC motor lying around its 1360kv but only 150watt but I don't think that's an upgrade but more for a 3d foamy.

I wash checking out this motor:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ner_Motor.html

But the shaft is 4mm might be able to make it work. 10g heavier than the stock motor but 338watt an it's 1100kv.
I can't go to four cells 3 is pushing it with the small fuse size of this plane.

What HK says about max. watts is typically BS. That 2836 should be capable of dealing with a bit more power than the smaller 2826 (~150W) or 2830 (~180W) motors... but 338W is waay over the top for a 70g motor - the 3W/g rule of thumb suggests 210W max.

I can't speak for the stock motor but a Suppo A2212/13 (~1080Kv) [roughly the same weight and Kv as the 2826/2830 motors you linked to] with a 9x5 GWS HD drew 10.45A/113W.. pitch speed was ~40mph.

The Suppo A2217K/9 (70g, ~1035Kv) [matching the weight and Kv of your Turnigy 2836], with that same 9x5 GWS HD drew 11.95A/130W with 42.6mph pitch speed.

If you cannot go to 4s, then you need higher Kv and a higher pitched prop to get sufficient speed and power from 3s, to improve your Mustang.

For example, if you used a 70g Suppo A2217K/6 (~1530Kv) on 3s with a 7x7 APC Sport prop you would get 21.20A/227W and 27oz thrust @ 87mph!

How about this motor is it similar to the Suppo:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ess_Motor.html

This HK motor is 20g lighter than the Suppo but it is around the same watts 205. would the bigger motor still crank out more power.

If this motor would work what size prop should I put on it.

Despite what HK would have you believe that motor is still 50g and 3W/g says 150W max......a 70g motor like the Suppo 2217 would be rated for 210W.

I ordered the Suppo 2217 motor from Altitude hobbies for around $23 with shipping. I did get the Turnagy though I'll put it in a WM EP Chipmonk
