Astro 020 Brushless Question
Pardon the ignorance, but I've finally stepped up to a brushless setup for my Zagi, which should be here tomorrow. I ordered the motor and ESC but didn't ask if it needs to be reverse timed or not. Is this something that only needs to be considered with brushed motors??? Does the wiring dictate flow??? Thanks in advance.

RE: Astro 020 Brushless Question
If your ordering the astro 020 from zagi, then they wires should be set to pusher mode. I bought mine from a local hobby shop, and had to switch two wires to get it to be in pusher mode. If you accidently get it setup as direct drive, all you do is simply reverse the wires. Good luck, and have fun. You'll definetly have a blast with the 020 and the kan 1800 mah nimh pack(very good combo!).

RE: Astro 020 Brushless Question
Very cool, thanks for the reply, that's kind of what I figured but wanted to be sure. I ordered it from a somewhat local hobby shop so I may have to play with the wiring some. Thanks again.

RE: Astro 020 Brushless Question
Flew it today and I like the way the motor works, but am not sure it was a night and day difference, this on the same packs I used before. Another question...what prop are y'all finding is he best and is 10 cells too much for this motor as they say a 20AMP max.
Thanks again!

RE: Astro 020 Brushless Question
10 cells is the max for this speed controller that comes with the 020. Call Astro Flight 1(310) 821-6242 (2:30-4 pm pacific western time). I run the prop zagi now supplies in all their kits. Its the 5x5 carbon prop, and its really good! Runs more efficiently than my older graupner prop, and faster. Gotta love speed!!!
020 for me was a huge difference!! Stock 400 can then 8 months later 020.... Big big differnce. 35 mph makes the difference for me!

RE: Astro 020 Brushless Question
It may be perception for me. I had a 400X that I haven't flown in a year, still shelved, and now built the XS with the Astro and didn't try the stock motor. So, 10 cells or a 3 cell LiPo pack would be okay with this motor. Might have to try some variations.

RE: Astro 020 Brushless Question
Be careful. Check AstroFlight's website for prop size recommendations on 10 cells. The motor and ESC can only handle so many Amps, and increasing cell count from 8 to 10 might push you over the edge with your current propeller. You might need to use a smaller diameter prop.
