As for mods, yes, carbide cutters are the best and sanding drums to rounds the lower skirts of the sleeve works also work like a charm.

It is speculative, but seeking a distinct line is also an indication of turbulent flow. This might be negiigble, but at very high RPMs when the mass of air is flowing very quickly, any turbulence will not do anything except impede the intake of fresu fuel-air into the combustion chamber.

dont take this the wrong way but read the first post--tools you will need and the rest of it you will want to read to.

What porting is that? Does that change the timing of the engine at all, or just crazy air flow? When I round the edges of the bottom of the sleeve I only round the edge directly below the port, kinda groove it up from there, that looks like an extreme version of what I do. More info please.

I ported an engine today and ended up leaner? This is my fourth mod and usually they end up 3 or four hours richer, this one ended up about 6 hours leaner. Thats new, just wondering if anyone had that happen before, no complaints, just curious cause I had an overleaned engine blow a conrod before 5 minutes after being ported. I ran a tank through it on the street no probs. The engine is a Toki Pro Tech 21.

Heres the pics, got it apart for cleaning, just four screws. The last picture is a shot from the bottom, you can see what I mean about rounding off the edge below the port.

My guess is that the flow channels you cut and the rounding of the sleeve skirt actually helped volumetric flow at all RPMs and that is what alows you to lean it and still main tain the same power (or achieve better power). By improving the fluid flow within the engine, you increase the volumetric efficiency since fuel-air can enter and leave the cylinder effectively.

As you are cutting, cut with care on every part you touch. Always remember that any metal you grind off cannot be put back on. Also, keep in mind the disclaimer at the beginning o this thread and in the articles: if you cannot afford to mess up your engine, then dont do it, especially if you are not skilled enough to mod your engine.
For me, I had to badly mangle used sleeves and other worn parts to get my modding skills up to par. I feel I still have a long way to go, but I never attempted to even cut a functional engine until I felt I could make consistent cuts without error.
If you are only going to cut flow channels into your sleeve, go ahead and do so, even if you mess up a little, you have not ruined your timing profile of the sleeve. Now, if you are advancing your timing profile by cutting the ports up as per the Steve Pond article, do not even attempt to do that until you can make very consistent cuts without any errors.

looks good for our first time, but you could have removed more brass off the sleeve though. but don't do anything your not sure if you can do. you can see my work on page 10, that was my 2nd sleeve I've done and first crank. post 192 I think.

well not really deeper, but on the 2 main ports (first picture) I take my flow channel (guide ports, whatever you want to call it) all the down the sleeve, I'll post some pictures of my 3rd engine I modded tonight.

RE: RC Car Actions "How to port a Nitro Engine"
the one in the 3rd picture looks the best out of the 3 sides. but what I've noticed is the ports in the case and the the flow of the fuel (used engine) so I run my guide ports on that line (where I see the fuel running, and the port in the case) I'll finsh up my enigne and post some pictures of it.
and look at pictures of pro mod jobs aswell, that helped me, (heres a few names, AB Mods, RBmods, CEO mods, EBmods, and Protwister mods)
