RE: any info on the STS .30 REV2
I just got my D30M, unfortunately, I think it is the loose sleeve version since I can pull the starter very easily and experience little pinch (I have not yet broken it in!). []
Other than the tighter sleeve, I believe V2 of the D30M is exactly the same as the older D30M.

the V2 will make alot more power then the V1...the tight pinch means alot more compresion and power...a V2 will be brutaly tight !

Thanks for the nfo! Do you think the rebuild piston and sleeves currently out are V2? I'll stil run in my current piston and sleeve as is, but I am tempted to take them out and mod them.

I did not know there was two versions of the STS 30. Which one does Racernine currently sell? How do we know which one we have? Thanks.

As for which D30M is V1 or V2, I do not know. They sell whatever they have in stock and they do not differentiate which is which version.

The only person that I know who has the D30M v2 for sure is jeff, and can be contacted at [email protected] or (940-689-9800) He is the guy to talk to about the v2 STS .30 There are several people who will be selling the loose pinch until their stock is gone, so be very aware.
Here is a few links to other threads about the v2

In the picture below the p&s on the right is a v1 after maybe 12 tanks. Btw the piston should not be able to go all the way to the top of the sleave. The p&s in the center is a much tighter v2. On the left is an extremly tight p&s which is used in the Extreme RC Mods Stage V

RE: any info on the STS .30 REV2
It might just be me, but this engine is not thrilling me.......Maybe it is me though..
Have about 1/2 gallon through it. Heat cycled it, taking it kind of easy, up to temp, then cool.
That all seemed fine, although real boggy, nothing unusual other then temps around 230-240, which seemed high as it was still boggy....
Running 20% Odonnels with an OS 8...
hsn---3.25
lsn--5.75
Now that seems, from what I read, a bit rich on the needles...I was thinking the boggy low end agreed with that...But if I lean it out, even an 8th turn it gets way hot, 280 and rising(and a hell of a lot zippier). I am only running the .30 shim.
Any ideas, I must be missing something........

RE: any info on the STS .30 REV2
Your HSN is way too fat. Leave the LSN at 5.75, and start leaning the HSN. Richen the LSN just enough to keep the temp below 255F every time you go leaner with the HSN. Do not be surprised if your HSN ends up between 2.25-1.75. If the idle ever starts lean revving, fatten the LSN to cure it. I would suggest a MC59 plug until you get it tuned close.
Where did you buy your motor? Pipe? Clutch shoes? What is it in?

RE: any info on the STS .30 REV2
The OS #8 is a short plug and therefore might be be causing your D30M to have too low of a compression ratio. Do what scdrj suggest and get teh McCoy MC59 (I think this is a hot plug). I would also suggest you get an MC8 and an MC9 as well (I cannot remember which is the medium and which is the cold). This range of plugs will help further tune by plug heat rating.

RE: any info on the STS .30 REV2
That is correct.
The MC59 being a med/hot plug also increases timing, and seems to tune easier. The MC8 will allower higher rpm as it retards timing. The MC9 does not seem practical for this motor in the hands of "the regular guy". Again, start with the MC59.

The Url is too long or something and keeps breaking. Just use that and scroll down the video in the one on the right.

RE: any info on the STS .30 REV2
First off, Thanks for the offers of help guys. It is greatly appreciated.
I think I am close with this motor, just need some outside expertise. Sometimes when you are in the middle of something, you miss the forest for the trees....
I bought the motor from STS-pro on fleabay....Fellow shipped quicker then an email response....One of the fastest shippers I have ever seen on fleabay...Amazing!
I am running it in an MGT. MGT clutch shoes and bell. With an LST1 pipe. I have also ran this same combo of truck/clutch and pipe with an LRP Spec 3 with great results.
This is all likely breakin issues on my end....
Are these the factory settings, or appropriate settings for the Rev 2 motor? I found this on another thread....
Factory settings are:
ls = 4.5 turns out
Hs = 3 turns out

OK...STS-Pro really set me straight on this mill.
I did not have the Mccoy plug on hand, but did have a stock of brandy new Odonnels long sport plugs which are a medium temp....
In anycase, here is what has me darn close to correct...
1 thin copper shim.
20% nitro....
HSN-3
LSN-6.25
50 degree outside temp.
Engine is running 230
Right now with these settings this mill is clost to the Spec 3...Might have a bit more power. Will be able to do a head to head when I get a rotostart plate for the Spec 3....That is another story as the reason I am trying this mill is the lack of parts for the Spec 3, specifically a OWB....
Anyhow kudos to Sts-pro.......SUPER Fast shipper and offered help, based on this post without even knowing I bought the mill from him....
STS should be damn happy they have folks like this supporting their mills...

PS...That Odonnel plug....Here is the spec from Odonnel:
ODOG0302 Purple Super Sport Plug, 1/10 Car 20-33% Medium Compare to........McCoy MC8, MC59
So luckily this is a close match to the recommended

Here's a site that has STS tuned pipes and the engines as well.
http://stsmicroengines.com/
Anybody dropped a .30 in a REVO? Im considering going to a Bigblock and was wondering what is involved. Engine, pipe & mount?
