The Axial 28RR is as yet unproven - but their first 28 is a great engine. Tower still has a few, and with the discount code they're going pretty cheap.. From what I hear they should be at about the same performance level..
The LRP Truggy Spec 3 though I heard has had rave reviews...(in US magazines, etc..) If I had a truggy it's what I'd get..(but I only have MT's - and an Axial 28RR is on the way...)

Well, since RB Innovations is back in the US, i would go with that. They have always been a race leader. The TM series is great. If your looking for a .28 stay with the 7port, as the 9 port that i have drinks fuel like crazy.
A few others to look at are the Mugen Ninja .28. This is a great engine that really did well down at the track last year.
I believe that the hottest talked about engine for this year is from Trinity. The Draked Race Edition. Very nice engine, im just starting to drive mine around in my 8ight-T. So far its living up to all the hype. However im still partial to my RB 928 even if it is a fuel hog.

RE: Truggy .28 engine choices
well, aside from the RB stuff. The others fall into that category.. IMO.. my reason for listing RB is becuase parts for him should be priced competitive, since he is somewhat local to there HQ.
I did push aside the cost of the engines, just for one reason. Its harder to find parts in the UK. So he really needs to find something that parts are easy to obtain. Some people dont really contemplate things like that becuase they dont see it being an issue. But if your engine's parts are readily at hand, getting yourself back up and running at a "lesser" cost is the way to go.. right? So, i tried to list some engines that are very competitive on the track, Popular for the rest of the RC hobbists, and he would still be able to find parts from online, ebay, and possibly locally as well. We stock parts for all of them. "aside from RB - as there new USA distro has just reopened."
If i had to make a choice between the listed products, the Platinum .28 is a great engine for the money. but parts for them may be selective in the UK right now.

Haven't found a Picco P3 owner who wasn't giddy over the power and tune of the P3 28. Pricier than the Axial or LRP, but I think it's built better.

RE: Truggy .28 engine choices
I have the LRP truggy z28r spec 3 in my Cen truggy and it just SCREAMS! Easy to tune too, my main worry about it is the mileage sucks. I get about 5 min per 150ml tank. Others have also complained about a leaky front bearing also. Well you can't get something for free I guess. Xtreme RC dynoed the engine at 1.78HP and I believe the torque was at 78 oz/inch with a 41K RPM redline! The hot mod rossi 528XR dyno's at 2.08hp and 80oz/in torque. So you're getting pretty close to rossi performance. I would bet though that the rossi is alot more durable than the LRP.

Thanks for all the replies, has given me much to think about. I have found out the lrp and the nosram are also identical and just have different cooling heads.

RE: Truggy .28 engine choices
Both good engines. It would be a thinker, thats for sure
Your correct, you cant go by there specs givin by the manufacture. Thats why some of them have stoped posting specs.
So many things determine this. Your header length, pipe choice, ambient conditions and your tuning for those conditions. Then the fuel type your using and what % of nitro..
I hope this helps

RE: Truggy .28 engine choices
Hmm im confused about different versions of the picco p3 28. The picco site shows [link=http://teampicco.com/Motori/p3-28.html]this[/link] as the only 28 picco make. However i have seen [link=http://www.rchopups.co.uk/item--PICCO-P3-28-WITH-PULL-START-51232--Picco28.html]this picco 28[/link] and [link=http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpecification&ItemID=25291]this picco[/link].Are they both the same and getting info muddles or are they actually different, Its not the hp and rpm its the number of ports that are confusing me.
