RE: carden 35% 260 liftoff
Carden is awesome as usual. I already received an email from Caroline informing everyone on the run of the correction. She even sent an addendum of the change and requested a response back to confirm you received the update!
Awesome customer service...
Mine should be here tomorrow....can't wait!!

just a few shots of the bagging process. even tho its not needed i still use a few weights on top to hold the top shuck in place. you can see how tight the bag holds the parts. any shape can be bagged.with the lighter carden foam i,ve reduced the bag pressure to 5 hg. down from the 7 i use to use. i leave each part in the bag for 24 hrs

I've never bagged but I helped a friend do it for his first attempt...I see you added weights too - that's what we should have done because everything came out fine except the hatch curled a little on us.

Bob,
The weights are just for insurance as you pull down the vacuum. Once the vacuum is down in theory you can hang the part up and clear your workbench.
I say in theory as I have seen this done is a pro shop where they had rows of wings hanging in vacuum, but I never had the guts to try it myself. I always leave the bag on the bench (and leave the weights on It wont hurt...)

RE: carden 35% 260 liftoff
Hi Guys
I have 2 super ZDZ80RVJ and i was wondering if there is enough room to slide a tuned pipe under the wing tube, into the fuse?
The pipe dimensions are 680mm long (without header) by 59mm diameter.
Thanks
Daniel

if your talking about a zdz super 80 in the carden, forget it! i own a super 80 and its a great engine, but it just wouldn't cut it in here. you really need the 100 because of the weight.

It depends of the final weight. If it's possible to built it at 25 lbs, the super ZDZ80 would be OK with a tuned pipe.
(Mejzlick 27x10 at 6400-6500 RPM, with a tuned pipe)

you also have to realize the carden is a big plane, probably the biggest 35% out there. the 80 will just fly the plane. in the summer heat there will not be any vertical to speak of.

Scoubidou,
The Super 80 on a tuned pipe would be plenty of power for a 35% of this size....if you keep the weight down. I fly with a guy who has one...and I know on a pipe they make just about the same power as a good 100 on regular muffs.
I think you'd likely end up around 26lbs with the 80 in a Carden unless you swiss-cheesed the sides and foam parts to really knock out some weight....25 may then be possible. It won't have ballistic punch-out, but it should be more than enough.
But the biggest hurdle will be installing a long tuned pipe in the fuse. There's plenty of room under the wing tube, but once you move behind the motor box, you have the fuse truss structure to deal with. At the point where the truss structure meets the back of the motor box, there's only 2.5" of clearance....the bottom foam deck then tapers to meet the truss structure at the tail wheel. The motor box is 20" long from the firewall to the back plate. There's about 7-8" of room under the wing tube...just remember the truss structure splits this space in half just a couple inches behind the tube.
If you're willing to notch the bottom foam out to clear the pipe (basically running the pipe exposed), then you might be able to make it work.

RE: carden 35% 260 liftoff
I'd be interested in the balance issue as well. I've got a BME 115 on the way and am contemplating getting this airframe. Would this motor just be too light.....if that's even possible?
Thanks

with stock muffs, I agree you'd probably have balance issues....but the 80 on a tuned pipe may be possible. Yes you're losing engine weight, but you're adding muffler weight...although not as far forward.
....IMO, anything is possible if you're motivated enough!

I'll wait until the first builder has complete his 260 to see the final weight. I do not worry about the lacking power. A super ZDZ80 can turn Mejzlick 27x10 over 6500 RPM on a tuned pipe which is the same as DA100 but 1 pounds lighter.

Bobt2, If you havent done anything to the wings. Before you get to far check the wing root cap. Dennis gives us a 48" piece to cut in half, If you line the holes up for the wing tube I found that these pieces will be short. Its like the pre drilled holes are not in the right spot. Just lay it over the print and see if you have this problem also.

RE: carden 35% 260 liftoff
yea, thats about the same as my 35% 330 was . about 1 " short. i'll just add a piece of scrap at the back. theres no strength issues here
