Thanks, Tony I cant take all the credit. A friend of mine helped a lot with the scheme. It has all 8611a with a DA 100, MTW canisters, Smart fly turbo reg, 2 Match boxes, Fromco 2600 batteries, JR single conversion reciever. We took out about 2 Lb. total on the build so with the added weight of the cans I think it will be right around 26-27Lb? Still need to do a few things and I should maiden in a few weeks. Ill let you know how that goes.

Bob,

I'm building one too. I hope your flight reports inspire me to get working on it soon. I plan to have a similar set-up. If you get a chance to weigh it, please let us know. I hope to get mine around the same as yours.

finally! it was 40* and 15-20 mph but we flew. it flies very light on the controls, spins and snaps were no brainers. it made even my attempt at rollers look good. even at very low airspeed i could not get a tip to drop, it just starts mushing. i can't wait for a better day to start fine tuning.dennis has designed another great plane!

to me,the test flight is the best flight i have on a plane.you do all the work and wonder if you missed anything. you wonder if it's stright and the cg is close. the first flight is the thrill, than it's back to work trimming for your taste

Well, after all is said and done it came in at close to 28Lbs. I think after all the lightning the mtw cans gained a few pounds back. To my supprise it was a little nose heavy and the batteries had to be mounted aft of the canapy. Other than that I am ready for a nice day to maiden.

kevin, i'm also a little nose heavy. my batteries [2x2000] lipos are behind the canopy. i got some more flights yesterday. using a 10x, if it helps, it looks like i have 5% differental on the ailerons and 8% opposite ail on the rudder mix with no elevator needed. this was on another windy day so the numbers may change slightly before i,m where i want to be. snaps are super fast and i may have to tone that down a bit. we[my son and i ] tried a little 3-d and it seams really good their too.

Bobt2, I got my first 4 flights on it today and its funny because my mix is about the same so far as yours. The plane is rock solid and feels rally good. It was pretty cold out and it took a few flight to get over the jitters of a new plane. After that I could relax and injoy. Seems like plenty of virticle.

kevin, my verticals are awsome, snaps on the upline don't loose much energy. looking at my program again i realise i have some up elevator with left rudder to hold the knife edge line. i don't always know what the mix is because my son reaches over my sholder and programs while i,m flying.it's easier than trying to remember what you need after landing.

kevin, how many flights do you have now?. i,ve got about 20 and still fine tuning.i keep reducing evevator throw to get the snaps tamer. they were too fast to look good imo. i,m down to about 12 in low rate. i,m also impressed with the 3-d. even i can torque roll, sort of!

I have about 12 flights on it so far. It's been pretty windy here. My snaps are a little to slow at this point and need to work on that. The plane is awsome! I look like i have been doing rollers for ever. Just started lerning and they are pretty easy with this plane. I moved up to intermediate this year and this will be fun with this plane.

Hello Bobt
After many years flying ARF, i have decided to come back to kits. I would like to make an IMAC weapon with this Extra 260 and DA-100 on tuned pipes intead of using canisters.

No needs to remove the cowling for the pics!! PLease take 2 or 3 pictures of the gas tank and radio gear location without the hatch/canopy. I am trying to see the room to fit 2 tuned pipes 30'' long and 2.5'' diameter. Will i have to make new formers?

it could be done, but I think the pipes would be exposed behind the motorbox. I don't think there's 2.5" clearance between the bottom truss work and the bottom foam deck. You'd have to notch out the foam pretty good, sheet the bottom of the truss structure and basically build a 3-sided box. Done right, it could look pretty cool!

Carden's don't use formers, its all 3/8 sq balsa stick...and you really don't want to modify or leave any out...

The exact BMB tuped pipes diameter are 59mm=2.32 inches and it's easy to do a balsa pipe tunel to hide them, when we have room to work...
JMiracle, i dowloaded your video on giant forum. [sm=thumbup.gif] What prop/RPM do you have on the MTW cans? Would you accept 300 mpre RPM for the same prop?

you know...i bet you could move the 2 bottom trusses up an inch or two and build a balsa tunnel under them and you wouldn't lose any strength...you'd still have to cut the foam bottom deck out to fit around the tunnel, but that could be blended pretty easy.

I say go for it!

I'm running a 27x10 NX prop on mine....i didn't tach it....don't care any more....all i know is it's got what feels like an insane amount of power and it floats like nothing I've flown before.

I'll say this...I'm at a little over 27lbs (3-4oz) with cans. I weighed the can setup and the stock muffs and I know i can knock out 20oz of weight by switching to stock muffs. I think I'd give up 300rpms well before I'd give up over a lb in weight!

hope this helps you. heres my set-up. throttle and choke servos are under the engine box, they are powered by the ignition battery and connected to the reciever by fiber optic cables. fuel tank on the cg is a 32oz b&B tank, no more leaking stoppers for me. radio box is empty. the reciever, lipos and regulators are behind the canopy. with the da100, k&s rear exaust cans and tt spinner it's still a tad nose heavy.

about 8 more flights today, still tweeking. added a touch more down and right thrust. it was pulling to the canopy on long uplines and we added a bit of down elevator to low throttle to help the downlines. i think thats fine now. also reduced the differental from what i had. it was a little to much. my son took it thru the unlimited sequence today and he said it felt good. this plane really nails the rollers
