    Lookin' great Bob.

I'm also deliberating on the one or two piece for my 260.
Since you have the motor mounted was there any issue slipping the cowl off & on over the DA?

    Thanks , Ed

    RE: carden 35% 260 liftoff

I have recently finished my 32% Carden Yak 54. I am so impressed with Carden kits, I would like to build the 35% Extra 260. I have a few questions.

    1) I noticed the Carden Extra uses full length elevators on the horizontal stab. A few kits use the counter balance elevators similar to the Yak set-up. Is there any advantage or disadvantage with the full length elevators?

    2) I have a set of MTW 75 canister mufflers. Will they fit and what is the header drop when using the DA100 engine?

    3) I plan on using the DA100 engine with the SWB offset mount. What size spacers will I need?

    4) What is the diameter of the spinner?

    Thanks for the help.

I am enjoying this build thread.

    Regards,

    Steve K

    Steve,

The full scale 260 didn't have counter balances. Cardens 330s have them as does the full scale. Having flown both I don't see a difference but you might if using an older servo with less torque than todays servos.

Yes there is room for canisters but I don't know what the header drop would be. I'll be using the standard DA mufflers.

    3) I plan on using the DA100 engine with the SWB offset mount. What size spacers will I need?

The DA 100 is 1" away from the firewall.

    4) What is the diameter of the spinner?

    4-1/2"

    Thanks for the help.

Swk550, I am also building the Extra 260. I used the MTW 75 cans and used the 90mm drop. Works great with this plane. The spinner is a 4-1/2". I am new to building but have a great builder as a friend and this is turning out pretty nice.

the drop is about 4" i make my own headers from the kits and i use the k s rear exaust cans. the exaust exits the fuse just behind the wing tube.

just to show what else i,m doing at the same time. i inherted my sons 40% carden 330s and deceided on a recover. tired of scale schemes and trying to use up lots of 1/2 rolls of monokote i copied and combined some schemes i've seen and liked.

    Nice job Bob!

If you would, could you explain your paint process; glass filler, primer, color, clear coat, etc?? DSP did a great thread on painting with the FG crew. And where do you paint? basement, garage, etc???

i don't want to get that deep into finishing here. it's been done before. however, the reason for the paint delay is that i'm working with a mfg and may be trying something new. stay tuned!

a few more graphics and a balance check to go. i guess the first nice day it will fly. my son and i tried something new. water based poly u from jerry nelson. some colors matched well, others were piss poor imo. these were close but the royal blue on my other extra was wayyyyy off. its a whole new learning process for thinning and spraying. the up side is NO smell, dry in 15 min and for here on long island the more humidity the better it goes on.

its a single hitet5955 in the tail for the rudder. even with that and the lightened motor box, i,mpretty nose heavy. i switched out my ignition battery and saved 1 1/2 oz there and the lipos are going behind the radio compartment to get close. it looks like weight will be around 27 1/2 lbs.
