Carden 35% Extra 300 Mid Wing
Carden does not make a 35% Extra 300 Mid Wing airplane kit. Dennis sent me a 35% Extra 330 fuse with Extra 260 wings, motor box and landing gear. This will be my attempt to construct a 35% Extra 300 mid wing. Also I will be installing KS-1060 tuned pipes. First of all I had to mark on the plans the Extra 260 mid wing tube locations. I will be using the identical stab to wing center line offset as the Extra 260.

RE: Carden 35% Extra 300 Mid Wing
SWK,
I've been thinking about asking Carden if they would do that, you're one step ahead of me! I prefer the looks and longer moment arms for precision flight. Assme kit price same as standard 35%er? Looking forward to watching your progress on this!

RE: Carden 35% Extra 300 Mid Wing
Good luck with your project but you might have made a little less work for yourself if you bought a 260 kit and a 330 turtledeck and canopy. Either way..very cool and good luck.

RE: Carden 35% Extra 300 Mid Wing
Two questions:
-How about just raising the wings on the 300 to "midwing"...woudn't that work?
-What's the difference between the 300 & 260 wings?

Tuned Pipe Installation
I am installing KS 1060 tuned pipes. The header is a 90mm flex drop style. I am keeping the installation as light as possible as the CG of the plane with aluminum tuned pipes tends to be tail heavy. The exhaust floor is 1/4" grey depron. I use depron on all of my Carden 35% airplanes. I try to keep at least 1/8" clearance between the pipe or canister. So far, I have never melted depron. I will epoxy coat all wood parts in the exhaust tunnel area. Also, it is a good idea to install the wing tube sockets in the fuse before you finish installing the bottom side pieces. I CA in the sockets and then follow up with a 1/8" radius fillet of milled fiberglass and epoxy on the inside of the plywood motor box. The black servo extension lead tube is from Gator RC. It is a lightweight paper material.

Wing Root Caps
I have been using 1/4-20 aluminum screws in the wing caps to hold-down to the fuse. I like to install a reinforcing disk on the inside of the root cap. Then I use nylon wing nuts inside of the fuse. I have made a wing root drilling template. All of my Carden wings are interchangeable.

Litening the Fuse and Rudder
I finally have some more time to build. I've added litening cut-outs to the fuse belly and the rudder. I was able to save 1.5oz weight on the fuse and 0.9oz on the rudder. I hope this will offer better CG placement for the batteries as the aluminum KS1060 tuned pipes will move the CG to the rear.
