Default GX1 transmission/Spur gear question

Hi, Im new to the board, and somewhat new to the RC racing scene. I bought my first RTR nitro RC about 3 years ago, the CEN GX1, and after a good season of racing, I had a few minor problems that prevented me from using the car for the past 15 months. The problems were pretty minor, and included a cracked wheel hub, and spur gears missing a few teeth.

Wheel hub:

After a few long weeks of waiting for my parts to arrive, I had no problems installing the wheel hub. The spur gears; however, were a different story. I made sure to find out the part number of the gears before ordering, and they were T38 & T42. I got T38 and T42 gears in the mail, but they did not look like, or fit my transmission at all.

What my gears and tranny looks like:

Heres what I recieved:

Obviously the parts I recieved will not fit on my transmission. I did some investigating on CENs site, and the transmission it shows for the GX1 looks different from mine, and it uses the exact gears that I recieved.

Now my question is, why is my transmission different from what CEN's site shows, and is there a way for me to convert what I have to this new design?

Thanks for any help you can offer, seems like a great site you have here. [8D]

you have a trans off the newer fun factor linup.... part # ff013 and ff017(t43 andt47) are the correct gears I think..... the rest of the setup is the same as the mt2 except for the belt drive.... Hope this helps....

there are 2 types of 2 speed tranny for the cen cars. the cheaper red gears, that u have, and there is the upgraded tranny with alloy hubs which takes the gear set that u got - green and yellow.

basically u have 2 choices - get the alloy hubs to suit the gears that u got or get some replacement red gears, the latter being the cheaper option, and if these have not given u any trouble then i would stick with them. the alloy hubbed gears can take a bit more abuse as they locate a little better on the shaft, and have a bit less play in them once installed

http://www.rccarsandtrucks.co.uk/1260_1_1314649.html thats a link to the red 38t gear - part number G84310-02

http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/1174_1_1382363.html this is the red 42t - part number G84310-01

or if u fancy it - the alloy hubs are part numbers G84302-04 for the 1st gear hub, and G84302-02 for the 2nd gear hub. they can be found on here - http://www.ehobbies.com/more-cen-rac...arts-list.html the page takes forever to load tho, but its the best cen parts listing that i have found. there are no pics of the alloy hubs on the page, so heres a pic of mine - just so u know what they look like.

hope that helps mate

oh cenracer - the part number u mentioned is for the single speed spurs - ff013 is definately the 47t single speed spur, ff017 is the large bevel gear in the diff - which, confusingly, also has 43 teeth. hope that clears it up!

poor judgement, thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it. I think I will go for the better green/yellow combo, seeing how I already have the spur gears. So all I need now is just the hubs, correct?

Thanks again.

no worries hunter - as far as i can tell all u need is the alloy hubs to suit the gears, just be sure that the 1st gear hub has the 1 way bearing in it, and the 2nd gear hub has the ball bearing in (same as the diff bearings - (10x15x4mm(?)) they should have them fitted, especially the 1 way bearing, and the diff sized bearing is easy to come by, if its not included.
they fit on the shaft just the same way as the red gears.

any probs or questions, just give us a shout.

cenracer - no worries either mate, its what we are here for!

no problem pirana...pilot shaft fits the standard cen NT-16 motor, it's the part that holds the flywheel in place and has the clutch bell on
