Hi Guys,

I didn’t want you to think I forgot about you. I’m just waiting on the parts to start from.

Also… if someone can e-mail a few pics of the part on the axel… I would appreciate it.

And also I couldnt wait to try those Sav wheels, so I made a set makeshift 14mm hexes to test them out.
They are made from epoxy. Should last enough to give me taste. Now just have to fix the car up (mental note...dont let young nephews drive car near solid objects again) and give them a try. (Bent centre shaft, stripped spurs!!)

azzman... I'm with you...spent yesterday at the hobby shop looking at rpm widemax offset wheel... found a nice purple or blue set... also, looked at the tires.. will need a set of mini-pins and a set of street tires... can't wait to run the OS 18cvrx at the track against the so-called real trucks...

Azzman…

Thanks for the pictures. I was worried that the axle had a taper. It’s not that big of a deal if it did… but it would have taken longer to machine. A straight hole cuts faster. (pocket milling to get a good size) Oh… very nice with the epoxy mock-up. Actualy, if your axle nut doesn’t come loose… it will probably last.

Cenracer1…

I use a set of the wide maxx wheels on my 1/6th scale stretched T-maxx. It makes it handle great.

my friend uses them on his maxx and it makes a huge difference in his handling... the cens a-arms aren't long like the t-maxx but even an inch or so wider wheels will make the truck much more stable.. I don't have a problem in the dirt because I can slide.. but on pavement... flips over at moderate to fast speeds... There is a reason I don't ever run the custom body on the truck yet... I'm just waiting for the finished product and the price so I can pick up the wheels and tires...

OK guys, ran the MT2 today with the Savage wheels/tyres, I may have to lower the gearing, its insanely fast!!! But man I love the grip it has now.
I wouldnt bother lowering the gearing but it now lacks that real punch off the line.....Although I really think the overall diametre of the Dirt Bonz is a little big for the car, but I like the idea of that size rim though, is there some other tyre that will fit but is a little smaller overall (sort of like in the pic below)?

Got a little bit of video footage, so will get on and post that tomorrow night if I get time.

Also rebuilt the front of the car (before I ran it with the big uns on) and at the same time installed the new shock tower, its magic, thanks Dr H. Will do the back end when my new turnbuckles arrive.
Oh and while rebuilding the front, I put in non modded diff cups to see how long they would last....hehe...abot 3 mins each!!
Also snapped a rear dogbone and broke a front lower arm (at the hinge pin).
Needless to say I put the modded diff cups back in!! Rollands (expensive) mod is looking more and more appealing...

EDIT those tyres come pre glued to rims with a 17"hex, not sure of the rim size though. Go here and scroll down for a look: http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm

low profile tyres - yea, my thoughts exactly... ebay item number 6000815378 looks good to me.

my (cheap) tmaxx driveshaft conversion is still holding up by the way... but it does mean sacrificing 4 cen cvds... not a prob if u have some salvageable knackered ones tho...

hey azzman - i see u got the optional hinge pins - any real difference in smoothness over the stock ones?

WOW poor judgement them tyres are low profile!
I prefer low profile tyres... they always seem to run more true then MT tyres, which means less vibrations, longer part life, much easier to control at high speed
they are also allot lighter

Should be great on my cen

Now for a serious post. Since I don't know squat about choosing the proper tires and wheels, I am probably going to go with something you guys say works. I was looking at Romulin rims on Ebay. There is a full set for $17. The rest are all $23 and up. It's Ebay item number 6009977166. Is this the right wheel? It looked like the only difference was in the finish but I am not sure. These are a 'Brushed Chrome".

Those are the same ones that I have. You will also have to use a large washer under the wheel nut to hold the wheel on a regular axle. The size of the washer is listed on the back of the package.

just make sure they come with the 14-17mm plastic adapter. most sets seem to come with them, but some dont!!

the washer i used was listed as 5x25mm, got em from a hardware store, if that helps.

craig - forgot... aye, those tyres look the part alright... im sure theres a law of suspension dynamics that states that the vehicle itself should weigh more than its wheels... im tempted by those, just the postage cost... customs etc.

Hi All,

OK… I got a couple of the wheel drive adaptors in today… and here’s what I’ve come up with.

Back

Front

I don’t know if I will actually scribe in my logo… these things are kind of small. But, I need to order a couple very small end mills to cut the 2mm slot for the pin… so it’s going to be a couple days before I get a prototype done.

Lastly… There has been some talk about a 17mm adaptor. What wheels are those used on? (savage?) And, do you want 14mm or 17 mm more? I guess I can make both… it will just take a little longer to do.

Let me know

Dr your logo there might be more work then its worth... its not like anyone will ever see it unlike when you make them shock towers might be best to have stickers made, i like stickers to cover them more embarrassing battle scars

stay with the 14mm... i might be wrong and theres another kind of 17mm but these hubs i have laying around are for a think a tmaxx to fit 17mm wheels

Looks good Dr H.
Those tyres look sweet PJ.
And heres the vid of me hacking around with the BIG TYRES on the MT2. And no Im not drunk near the end, the left front lower arm broke and it sort of wasnt tracking so good...[X(]. http://www.rcpics.net/img/68332

Oh yea, I have the e-ring hinge pins too and one hole in the new towers need a slight reaming.
And PJ Id say the hinge pins dont make any real difference, a tiny bit less play and they dont come loose at all, but I would say the arms are slightly easier to break with them on as the stock pins provide a little surface area on the plastic where the head of the nut is. My broken arm just pulled rifgt through the pin hole at the front, must have taken a hard hit on the wheel.

re the 14-17mm adapter - the Imex Romulin wheels for the Tmaxx have the right offset to work on the cen mt (0.25" offset). the wheels have a 17mm hex in them and so require an adapter piece to work with the 14mm hexes. The adapters usually come with the wheels, DrH, so I dont think there is a requirement for custom ones Im afraid.

Nice vid azzman - enough grip for u with those wheels...? Cmon now, get a big block in there! Lol, with those lighter low profile tyres, they should work great with an OS18 and stock gearing.

Hi Guys,

Azzman…

Nice vid. Were my shock towers under that body? Just curious to know how they were taking the abuse. Also… I will make a small correction to the hole in the bottom of the shock towers. A few thousandths of an inch should do the trick. (easy to fix) Hey… one last thing… did you make that logo (avatar) with your screen name in it?

Poor Judgment…

OK… that’s all I needed to know. I would prefer not to make 2 parts that are almost the same. Well… at least not right now. So, 14mm it is.

Craigb…

Stickers. OK… I’ll see what I can do. At least I’ll look around for local people that can print to vinyl, and what it’s going to cost me.

Dr H,
The front end had the shock tower on it, havent done the back yet (see previous post, pic there etc).
The original logo was a joint effort between me and my brother. (you want something...)

It's like Christmas around here. I am ready for these adapters. Since I was ordering new tires and wheels, I order some more items that were on my list. Next week is going to be so cool: parts are coming in from Toyhaus, CustomRCCars, Tower and a couple orders from Ebay. Has anyone else noticed that Ehobbies now carries very little CEN stuff? They had another site called RCModels that I ordered from a couple times, but that site is now closed and redirected to Ehobbies. Anyone know of 1 site where I can order all my CEN stuff from besides Toyhaus (they are a little pricey on stuff but carry everything). CustomRCCars has a lot of stuff, but there are some parts they are missing. Their prices are fairly good though.

Anyway, once all my parts come in, the MT2 and ATX will get a pretty complete tear down and rebuild to add all the new parts.

Ehobbies is updating their site I called them thursday and they don't have the cen stuff up yet. They said try back this weekend, so if you can wait. I'm in the same boat as you. I have $50 of parts to buy and can save about $15 if I go through ehobbies.
