Well I am glad to see someone with a cen onroad car finally try a big block in it.

The NX 15 is a big block engine.

yes it is, just becuz it says 15 on it Dont be Fooled. its much bigger that its name implies.. kindof remind me of the old 73 buick regal i used to own... 455 Stage 1 w/oversized oilports,b&b on crank, stepped up cam,holly650dp,with the factory stock trany n gearing.. the nice thing is other than rims/tires, it looked bone arse stock like its lil bro 350. The Sweet thing is it was a Sleeper to boot. other than the lil "rough Idle" you could not tell anything was different. sounded like a stock 350 with a small cam. no big deal. heh used to make alota extra money on no big deal.....
back to the TaH... this "lil" 15 is no sloutch. thats for sure.

per CENs website,

1.5 horsepower
NX-15 Big Block Lighting Engine Big Block 2.5
3 Ports
Dual precision crank bearings
35000RPM
SG shafts
True ABC construction
Rear exhaust
Slide Carb

heh... I've got a 72 at home with the 455BB. All stock though, I don't drive it anymore, but damn it had some go.

Anywho... How do you tell whether an RC engine is a BB or SB ??

the displacement i think, bigger piston, crank crankcase ect.. most companys have the engines named for engine size, but i dont think cen follow this practice religously. '
at least thats how i understand it

.........................Rolland when I make reference to a big block engine I am talking about .26 - .45 size motors. In my opinion I don't consider a big block .15 a true big block engine. My definiton of a big block is any motor that is bigger than a.21. Just my opinion

Nitro head. the NX-15 is a .25 motor at 1.5 horsepower. so it is a big block though on the bottom side of BB.

Actually it is a .15 but it does have the same dimensions of other big blocks.
The term big blocks are referenced to the physical size of the block and not the displacement. There have been .12 big blocks made also.
What Nitrohead5300 probably should have said is a larger big block instead of "a big block".
The only reason I pointed out the fact that it was a big block is because some people have seen the .15 and assumed that it is a small block.

ok, good to know. So it's kinda like how you can have a 318 big block or small block with the same displacement.

So, now, another question. Do most small blocks mount the same? And do most big blocks mount the same?

u got it dustin - small blocks have a dedicated mounting hole pattern and dimensions that are smaller than big blocks' hole pattern. so yea, one set of mounts for big blocks, and another for small blocks. big blocks are all rear exhaust too.

nitrohead - the .15 cen bb engine has similar external dimensions, ie mounting holes, rear exhaust position, larger carb etc to a .26 or similar. the stroke and bore or capacity have nothing to do with whether an engine is a big block or small block.

as I said above block is the outside of the engine and is not related to the capacity in any way

.............................. I am not talking about the externals but the internals. A big block usually has the engine block bored out so it can accept a larger piston, sleeve , bigger crank and larger carb.

indeed the larger capacity motors do - therefore they need a larger block to fit it all in, u see? especially with the rear exhaust arrangement. i think we all know what we mean and are saying the same thing really...

vids vids vids! lets see it!

I am glad that someone has tried a .28 in their Cen car . I am curious what kind of speed he will get out of this car with this .28. I know I am very satisfied with the performance I am getting with my outlaw with a .28 stuffed in it.
