So. Cal Classic Pattern Get-Together
Howdy All,
How many of you So. Cal. (or further away if you care to come) classic pattern enthusiasts would like to gather at a to be chosen spot and have an informal "get-together" or "fly-in"? A time to get familiar with other pilots, share war stories and information, and enjoy the best kind of R/C airplanes in the universe.
If there is sufficient interest, I am willing to approach the board at my club (Channel Islands Condors- Camarillo, Ca.) to get a date on the calendar. I have spoken with them about this last year, and they were not opposed to such a thing.
Or it could happen somewhere else. Who cares, as long as it happens?
I am not proposing an actual contest, but something low-key. If the results were to be worth the effort, then maybe hosting a contest would not be out of the question.
SPA-BPA-CPA-ELECTRIC-WHATEVER ALL WELCOME. You could even just run around flapping your arms and make airplane noises. That would not be the first time

Hi Bryan,
Tower has a great Kaos ARF one can get going in a week. I'm still trying to fly the Novice Pattern with some recognition reliably so my Kaos is still ahead of me ability wise.
I just figured out that for 300 bucks one could have a finished SPA/CPA model; Tower Kaos with coupon, 104 bucks, Magnum 46 from Hobby People, 49 bucks, Airtronics SD6 2.4 computer radio with receiver, 99 bucks, four 50 oz Airtronics servos, 50 bucks, rx batt, 9 bucks (Hobby People is having a heck of a sale). We are really living the Golden Age of model airplanes right now.

Excellent. We have interest! What would be best for most folks, Saturday or Sunday? We have a guy in our club that puts together a yearly calendar of events, I will talk to him, he may be able to help me select some dates that would least conflict with other events in the area. I will approach the PTB at the club, and see about getting a date set.
I don't think that the field will have to be shut down for the day, what I have envisioned will allow us to co-exist with the regulars. Most of them fly little electric toys and vacate by noon anyway. We have a nice facility in Camarillo, we host an annual IMAC event as well as numerous smaller events throughout the year.
The mission here is to get the ball rolling here in this region and open the door to more and better Classic Pattern activity in the future. You have to start somewhere, and it aint gonna do it by itself. Meanwhile, spread the word in your local area. The more the merrier.

I used to fly pattern with Quik Fly's, a Candy, Flat top Stormer, Taurus, Tipo's, And some I can't remember. I wish there were some of these still being kitted. Love to build one and fly again.

The Kwik Fli III is an ARF http://www.hobby-lobby.com/kwikfly.htm, the Taurus is a kit called the Primus, the Tiporare is a wood kit and a glass kit from current manufacturers. Check these forums and see what is out there. There seems to be more and more of the oldies available instead of less!
Welcome to Classic Pattern.

the tipo is + - 30 years old with 400 - 500 flights.1986 os max 61 sf pump , hitec servos , wheels and breaks on the mains , original k @ b epoxy paint ,7 ch spektrum 2.4 rx , jr 10 x converted to 2.4 . I used it as my jet turbine trainer , and now I fly it for fun . one of the best 60 size pattern plan ever made.
I had few of them in the past and I just sold one new in the box about a month ago on rcu,
see you all at the field.

Thanks Stuntflyr,
I will look into one of these. Another one I loved to fly was the Dirty Birdy early 80's.
Those were the good old days.
Igoren,
You deserve a lot of credit for keeping your tipo for that long in fantastic shape.
I sold off several of my old Rossi 60's. I still have enough parts(I think) to build another one.

ok, my tipo is ready ,
ok, my tipo is ready ,
Wow nice Tipo. Okay I'm inspired, I can't show up in CA without my Tipo. I got to get it finished and flown. The fues is done... New 2.4 rx, servos, dual LiFe's on dual switches installed and ready to go. New pumped ST .60x, fuel tank installed and RomAir's gone thru and ready. The wing however is jacked. The previous owner did a poor job "upgrading" to dual aileron servos. Man I hate that, servos are meant to be heard not seen. Okay they're not meant to be heard either but you get the idea. Anyway, I'm stuck. The guy clipped the torque rods so I can't go back. And a re-do of the aileron servo 'mounts' are a must… they're uuuuugly. Probably only one days work, I just have to commit. I'll pretty it up a bit after first flight with some trim.

Go, Eric, Go!
Yeah, my re-do is slow too. After recurrent training this week I'm on vacation so I'll get it done by the end of the month.
