RE: Midwest Flea Fli + 10 – Build
Thanks for all the suggestions and interest in the thread. At this point I’m a bit stuck until I know that I have a Webra and can use it to plan the layout. I don’t think I will want retracts unless I have the power to drag the extra weight around. I don’t mind high wing loading as long as I can go fast!!

Good news I think! My Webra 1028GT Speed 32 R/C engine w/muffler was shipped from the Hobby Club www.hobbyclub.com yesterday. One of the last few left. It will be interesting to find out if I can figure a way to make it fit in the limited space available. As soon as I know the 32 will fit I’ll order the Spring Air retracts.

RE: Midwest Flea Fli + 10 – Build
Received the Webra Speed 32 from the Hobby Club today. Cute little thing, but lots of HP. It is slightly larger and heavier than the OS 25, e.g. taller and longer.
The weights are as follows:
OS 25 is 7.75oz plus 1.75oz for the muffler, 9.50 total.
Webra 32 is 9.75oz plus 2.25oz for the muffler, 11.50 total
Delta 2oz.
Next, I’m going to do a mockup of the nose/firewall to see if I can make the Webra fit along with a retract nose gear.

Bought a 30 35 size mount for the Webra and will need to widen it just a bit for the engine to fit. Playing around with the Webra fitment but won’t know if it will work unit the retracts get here. Not much room for the engine mount and retract unit.

RE: Midwest Flea Fli + 10 – Build
I know sometimes people get frustrated with Tower Hobbies, e.g. impact on local hobby shops, selling so much Chinese junk, but I just had the most amazing experience (not the first time with them either). On my first Flea Fli order I received a coupon for $329.99 or $20. off on a WS1216 (LXXDR1). Later I received an email from them about free shipping and $25 (stackable) off on a $199 order. So I decided to order more stuff including the LXXDR1 (WS1216). When I received my order yesterday I realized I forgot to add the coupon number WS1216 on my order. I called them today to see if there was some slim possibility of fixing it and they did it no problem with a credit!!!

RE: Midwest Flea Fli + 10 – Build
I had a Midwest Flea Fli +10 in 1971 and it flew great with an O.S. .20. It only had a problem when flying off grass with those 2" wheels. When the O.S. .25 became available I installed that and it cured the take off problem.
The .25 is all the engine it needs, and it flew great. Finally lost when I was trying to find out how low I could let it spin and still have room to recover............I was young.

Thanks for the input. Good to know that a 25 powers it well.

Still waiting for the retracts. While waiting I decided to make a mockup of the nose section to try fitment ideas. Not much room in the nose! I don’t want to hack up the kit and then find that I cannot use the retracts. If it is not possible to use retracts I’d rather sell the kit and build something from scratch around the 32 and retracts.

woohoo....this thing is gonna be a overpowered rocket with the Webra
i have ordered 3 sets of retracts over the last year from SA, and the last set they said was in stock, but took 4 weeks to send them. ticked me off as i had a weeks vacation in that timeframe that i really needed them for....quality also varied from 2 identical sets........in otherwords, it's best to go with a maker that follows thru with product.
have you figured out what size fuel tank is going to fit?
the Jett bubble tank (6 oz) would probably be perfect as it is long but small in diameter allowing for a good fit with the retracts.

Try the following on for size. The first post is of the full scale plan. The second is a close up of the nose on letter size paper for engine and retract fit check.
With a 48x9 wing at 50-54 oz I'm sure it will still be ballistic on that Webra and retracts!
Hope this helps,
David.
P.S. If you find that this size model is the way to go, we might have to sort out the plan since it is over 36" wide and you might have a hard time finding a repro shop with a printer wider than that. The wing could be lopped off the plan and put on to a second sheet.

I’ve never had delivery problems with Spring Air before, expect the time they took off during the holidays has put them way behind.
Not sure about the tank yet. The 4oz tank fits fine in the mockup, but 4oz would not last long with the Webra.

I think you might be on to something Mike... Scale the plans up and you'll be golden!

I’m still working with the mockup, so we will see if it can work. As long as I have enough power weight is not a huge problem. Just need to fly faster!!

Mike,
what's the total weight of the retracts with struts, valves, tubing, etc.?
I take it a 0.6 oz servo takes care of the valve?

You are going to love that Webra. I went from a OS 25 F-ABC to to a Webra 32. The plane was on steroids! The Webra offers great linear power from idle to the top and perfect handling all the way. They are my favorite engine! The Flea-Fli will be a rocket....
