RE: building a pattern airplane book
I wonder how many editions were produced and how much the content changed. I have the fourth version printed in December 1999. The third, I think, was November 1996.

RE: building a pattern airplane book
Guys, this is Don Atwood, co-author of the book, Building a Pattern Plane. It had 4 versions but has been out of print for quite some time. Technically, it was never 'in print' since the books were printed, bound and distributed directly by Bruce Thompson, the other co-author. Actually, Bruce did most of the work in producing the book. The printing and binding was a royal PITA and one of the reasons we stopped selling it. It was never a 'for profit' venture, but rather a desire to share knowledge. Having said that, it was a tremendous amount of effort to come up with the original book let alone the effort to update it 3 times.
Bascially, no one has the 'right' to copy and distribute the book either physically or electronically except Bruce and I. You can argue the legality of it but you can't argue the moral aspect of it.
Status, I have asked Bruce if he will allow some site to publish the book in PDF form to keep it available for those that are interested. While the models discussed in the book are not current models, the methods and techniques are still very applicable.
I will let you know what the response from Bruce is and we can go from there.
We appreciate your interest in the book and hopefully we can make it 'available' again.

Woodie: There must be many of us who would gladly pay for the book in PDF or paper. I would like to add my name to the list of those who are present.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Scott,
If the copyright has expired, and there would be no legal issues, could you offer this book through your website?

I'd also be interested in buying a copy, either in PDF form or paper form. I'm new to pattern building & flying and it sounds as if this book would be an invaluable aid to us newbies.
If folks who would be interested in buying a copy post here saying so, then the demand for such an endeavor could be gauged better.
Thanks,
Mark

+1.
Don, thanks for posting and for letting us know the status of the book. A downloadable PDF version of the book would avoid the PITA of getting back into printing, binding and mailing hard copies yourselves. The PDF would allow individuals to take care of that easily at their local printers and it would be a win win all around.
While I have not yet seen this book, it looks very promising - thanks for your hard work in putting this together.
David.

For those that have not known Don personally, he designed a pattern plane called Demion. If memory serves me, it was in the early to mid 80's. It was flown primarly in the Denver and Colorado region. Extremely solid flyer. If anyone has a set of plans, I would be interested in purchasing a copy.

I have a copy of the 4th Edition in good condition and will sell it for $90 shipped (I think I paid $75 plus shipping on EBAY or RCU a few years ago). I need to check first with a local pattern flyer who may want it, but you can send me an email in the meanwhile.

RE: building a pattern airplane book
I have had a few people contact me asking about copies of this book. I really would like to help but it's just not possible.
The book has 200 pages and would take forever to scan. My little cheapo scanner would probably explode if I tried We don't have such places as Kinkos and Office Depot over here.
Also it weights 25ozs so the shipping costs to the US would be very high.
I am in no way interested in making money and anyway it would be wrong to do so as Woodie has explained.
I do hope he manages to make it available in some form or another as it is an excellent book and well worth having.

I would also be interested in a legal copy. I am also pleased to pay as well.
I designed 2 different 50 cal target rifles, and marketed plans for them for years, until the internet had so many bootlegged copied I just gave up. I appreciate the author checking into the possibilities of making this information available.
