What size, manufacture of rubber bands?
I'm ready to mount my wing on the old P-63 King Cobra and wonder what size and manufacturer of rubber band is typical for a 60 sized Pattern ship. The chord is about 11 inches, how long, thickness, etc would be nice to know.

RE: What size, manufacture of rubber bands?
Chris,
rubber brands !@%? [&:]
I guess it is an old design... why not loose those exposed dowels and clean up the wing mount? It's pretty simple to do isn't it?
Glad she's coming together!
David.
P.S. In my teenage Falcon days, I used to buy decent ~3 mm wide bands and place a good 8-10 over the wing. Some I'd place straight over from front to back and some I'd cross diagonally. It was rock solid but ugly as heck! Removing them at the end of the day was always nice... they'd be all full of slime from the muffler. Long live tuned pipes! [8D]

Yeah,
I'm going old school on this one.
Thanks, I saw these but they looked so small I wondered if they were the right ones.

No need to order #64 bands on line.
Any office store (Office Depot, Office Max or Staples) or Walmart have #64 rubber bands.
Before stretching them the first time, lubricate the bands with soapy water.
If you keep them in a jar with that soapy water, you can use the same bands several times, and they get self-cleaned from the engine's oil.

Of course there is no better way to store your rubber bands than in a closed box with some talc powder.
It also greases te surface of the bands so the sliding is much better to distribute the forces and prevent damaging of the bands.
How to mount them? From front to back. That's why on front dowels there normally is less space, forces on front of the wing can be twice as much and more as on the backside near TE.

Get #67 rubber bands. They are longer and wont crush the trailing edge like the #64's will. I use 10 on my Taurus and they do just fine holding things together. Sig is a good source.

Thanks guys. This model has little metal fitting on the trailing edge so the rubber bands won't crush the wood. I love this old stuff, it's so quaint.
