Default E-flite retract water proofing

I know I read in one of the Classic Pattern posts about water proofing the e-flite electric retracts. Remember it saying how the dew on the grass was enough to make them stop working. It talked about AeroTrend selling the product but their out of business .

BUT I CAN NOT FIND THE POST.

Can anyone help?

You're welcome! Good luck with the Eflite retracts, I'm just about done using them as I've had nothing but trouble with them. On my last outing, the nose gear broke in the trunnion during flight, of course I found out about it when I went to lower the gear for landing and saw the gear just hanging by the steering cables. Fortunately no damage during the belly landing. There obviously is some vibration causing the issues. I'm going to re-balance the prop and spinner and see if I can find some rubber to install between the unit and the bearers. Hope that'll help isolate some of the vibs. But really I'm waiting for the Robart gear to be released, or maybe when available, the electic gear that Schulman will be offering.

Every other piece of electronics we have in these planes are mounted in rubber to keep the vibrations from killing them. I can't see these gear living very long(which they haven't been) without some sort of isolation. I guess the difference with the Robarts will be that the control board will be mounted in the plane and not on each gear unit. That could help if the motor wires are strain relieved properly.
For now, I will stick with mechanical or pneumatic gear.

I totally agree Jeff, that's why I went with mechanicals in my GP Dirty Birdy.

Hi,

Giezendanner-Technik electric retracts has also the control board separate from the gear. These retractsare expensive but probably good and reliable (has been on market for long time).
We will see when my Marabu arrive from them where their electric EL-5 retracts (see image below)will be in use.
