Hey west Coasties,
There is an AMA pattern contest at Hollister, Ca on September 15th & 16th. They are hosting Classic Pattern at this contest. Show up if you can make it, and support classic pattern out here on the west coast.

RE: Hollister, Ca. contest Sept 15 & 16
As Robert said, "hey, we're going to fly Classic at an AMA contest" OK, maybe he didn't say that but that is what I am planning on. This is our 9th annual Bob "Whip" Whitacre pattern contest at the Wavemasters field in Hollister CA. We will be flying all AMA pattern classes and FAI. I also want to fly classic, I would like to know what classes of Classic people would want to fly. I know we have 3 or 4 coming who will be flying Masters but i am not sure who might want to fly another class. Please let me know. My goal is to fly 6 rounds of AMA pattern and 4 rounds of Classic.
FYI - I am planning on using the following CPA patterns http://www.classicpatternassociation...call_cards.pdf
Thanks,

Hi Jon
i am going to try and make this one, i plan to fly either the phoenix 8 or the tiporare in classic and my 2 meter plane in sportsman
the tipo will easily fly the masters pattern but i may be better suited flying the advanced pattern, but ifthere wont be many others flyingi would opt to fly masters with you guys
i think i can do most of those manuevers and its just for fun right?
did you get your phoenix done?
i'll just have to go figure out what a rolling triangle and a square eight looks like.

Dave - If you can make it to Hollister we can go over any pattern you want! We will have at least two in Classic Advanced so you will be fine. I have been flying the Phoenix for a while. It's loads of fun!
You are correct. It's all for fun!
Thanks,

The Hollister contest is now in the record book. There was a total of 26 contestants, of which 7 flew classic pattern. 6 rounds of AMA and FAI were flown, and 4 rounds of classic. We were blessed with great weather, and Jon Carter and crew host a first class event. Here is how it came down in Classic:
Classic Pattern Advanced (2)
Robert Fish 3000.000
Jon Bruml 2519.693
Classic Pattern Masters (5)
Jim Kimbro 3000.000
Don Atwood 2882.351
Frank Capone 2647.220
Dale Olstinske 2494.875
Dick Belden 1794.016
More later. Meanwhile here are a couple of photos from the event.

My thanks to all who flew Classic! I think it worked out great.
Frank Capone is planning on Classic at his AMA pattern meet also. Frank runs the Bud Garric Pattern Classic which is on October 6th & 7th this year. I will be there hoping to fly my Angel in AMA and my Phoenix 7 in classic!

CPA guys,
Look for a report on this event (Hollister) in the upcoming CPA newsletter. I will post some more here soon. I may be a city boy, but I do things at country fried speed.
