Pretty simple really, once you put the numbers where you want them. The Scorpion 4025, and think it was the 515 kv Version is a power house. But all you should use is 1300-1400 watts, so it doesn't even take that large a motor, but it's a good one.

Thank you, I would be very interested in that. I have looked at Scorpion before, they are nice. I guess my problem is that when I use the flight calculator on Castle's site, I just can't seem to put together combination that is interesting. What is the prefered propeller?

Just curious. How is the 1300 - 1400 watt number figured. Is that like a .61 swinging an 11 x 7.5 at 13,500 and that power figure converted to electric? Seems like with the engine disp. numbers increasing makes switching to electric make more sense than ever. Especially true if the powerplant is available for the $75.

Your typical 61 size engine puts out a little under 2 horses. Power in Watts is not an electric conversion, it is merely the SI unit for power. If you look at the specs of cars manufactured in Europe, they will typically give engine power in kW. Actually, by law I think they are required to.
In any case, 1 hp ~= 746W so it's easy to see that the 1400W electric motor power spec comes from the power equivalent of a 61 glow engine (1.9 x 746 = 1417W).
In the 1700's Scottish engineer James Watt used to compare the power of steam engines to draft horses, hence the origin of the imperial hp unit. Given your surname (I'm assuming), you and James might have enjoyed a dram back in the day.

Thanks Jamie and David. That really helps me grasp the 1400 watt figure. I really think I will be trying electric for my next new classic plane powerplant. I have way too many of the (old rule) glow engines to justify buying any new ones that make them obsolete. Don't get me wrong I will always have something glow powered flyable, just not anything I will ever use in SPA circles. That is alot of worry on my part as I have never participated in SPA, but I would like to a some point.

Ihave a Scorpion 4025-10 motor and run a 6s system. At nearly 1600 watts Iam very happy with the set-up. The APC 13-10e is the best prop and it turns 10,800 static at sea level.

Sorry I forgot to mention CPA. Too many cool planes to overlook. I am still chasing all those piped fire breathers that I couldn't afford back in the day, but dreamed of and have now acquired. I look forward to trying out everyone of them first, then I will aggressively pursue the electrics. I just wanted them(F.I.R.E.) for too long to skip them......I still can't wait to get them going!
