Default MK Beetle - wonderful flyer !!

More classic nostalgia to kick the winter building season off !!

Acquired from RustyB some time ago. Thoroughly inspected and hysoled lots of areas for strength. Rebuilt nose gear retract area for strength - especially for grass as well as the belly pan mounting areas. Eliminated the MK wiggle jiggle rubber motor mount and installed solid would blocking for mount. Enlarged all tire cutouts for grass flying, touched-up paint in areas where cracked and under balsa sheeting loose from aging on fuse and wings. Local DuPont paint guy and I spent ALL day trying to match the original metallics and colors !!

Specs:

YS 61 FR with Hatori 700 pipe
APC 11x10 prop
YS 20/20 fuel
All Futaba S3051HV's on all surfaces
MK Retracts
Futaba S3170G retracts servos -2
A123 1100 mah battery in the nose
12.4 OZ MK Tank on the C/G (little small)
Weight 8lbs - 4oz's!

Video is fifth flight back in summer. Has sat idly on the shelf not wanting to fly it too much on our bumpy field.

Just enjoy knowing its ready to go for the next classic meet and basically trimmed out for the most part.

Enjoy !!

Hey Chuck,

The video did the same thing with me, but it did eventually start. Start it again and just let it go. The only thing wrong with the viseo is that it isn't long enough.............LOL

I never figured out how to blend a clear canopy into the fiberglass or wood fuse without a bunch of glue lines and smears on the canopy. I never even figured out what type glue to use. how about posting a step by step with photos?
Thanks,

I would swear that airplane looks to be punching through the sound barrier at about 0:30-0:31!

Wow....
