I just ran across a set of plans for the Thunderbird IIB that I got from Joe Gross at the Nats many years ago. It's a great looking plane and Joe flew it very well.

This looks like a good subject for the YS .61 Classic.Looks like an EU1-A with everything lined up correctly.

It's a bit homely. Maybe with a color scheme that someone put 5 minutes effort into it may dress up a bit.

I am afraid that the Hobby Barn is long gone. I tried calling Rob several days ago, and the phone has been disconnected.

I wonder what happened to all the molds they had for planes like the Magic, Thunderbird, Dirty Birdy, Intruder and many other classic pattern planes.

They were good kits, and I never had any problem with their workmanship.

That's a bummer. I hope that the molds show up in the hands of someone that will do good by them.

I think the molds went to Leo in Missouri. He also got the molds from Florida.

Guys,

I do not have the molds from Hobby Barn. I attempted to buy them and was told "the rights to the designs were just renewed" and the molds are not for sale. I was also told the planes are still in production which is the opposite of what I was told by a former employee. Has anyone received any fiberglass fuse's from Hobby Barn lately?BTW, Rob is flying UAV's for Northrup Grumman in Utah. I have plenty of Hobby Barns fuselages so there are other possibilities. Stay tuned.

On a related topic is anyone in touch with Dan Gipe who owned Wing Mfg? Dan sold all of the classic pattern plane molds he had before he and Billie moved from Michigan and the molds have vanished. He had a bunch. Does anyone have information about those molds and who may own them now? It would be great to get them back in circulation.

Leo
