I´ve been trying to find the october 1995 issue of RCM&E where there is supposed to be an article about Hanno Prettner and his planes for the 1995 world championships (which he then never attended due to an accident). If anyone have this issue and would be willing to scan the pages in question I (and I think many others) would greatly appreciate it.

Oh yes indeed!

If we're talking 1995, Hanno must have been discussing the Sensation. It's the one design which I have the least amount of knowledge and info on.

Looking forward to someone like Ray pulling this out from his sleeve... as he always seems to manage!

Actually the Sensation came later. I know from trying to read the french version of the article that the planes in question were an Extra 300S (composite) as the primary plane an a Cranfield A1 (wood/foam) as the backup plane. A few pictures is posted here at RCU from the article but I would like to read the full article.

I believe those larger birds were show models. I don't think they were intended for F3A.

He must have started developing the Sensation at least in 93 when he won his last worlds with the Mystic 60. He must have not been a happy camper in 91 when he didn't fare too well with a 4-stroke in the Mystic 120.

Do you know anything about the "accident"?

If you have a French article, please do post it! I can read that. Probably translate it too.

Hi,

I know for a fact they were indeed intended for F3A.

The Cranfield was originally designed for the 1988 TOC but in the end he didn´t use it. After redesigning the Cranfield he choose to use it as his backup plane for the 1995 WC.

I'd love to read the French article, especially about the development of a belt drive system for the 'Hanno Special'. It seems Hanno finally conceded to the 4-stroke movement with the larger, semi-scale airplanes. Of course, I'd love to get plans for those designs!

Ray, i dont suppose you have a copy of the october '96' model helicopter world ? It was my last year flying at the brittish NATS.

I was lucky enough to fly at sandown park in 1994 and 95 and i remember standing up after fitting the blades to my helicopter and Hanno and his father were standing right beside me, a real honour to have shared the same flight line with the great man.

Reading through the artical and noting he used the JR 4000 super servo's, i still use mine to this day. For me, they were the golden years for F3A and F3C.

Sorry John, don't have any specialist helicopter magazines. Over the years I've dabbled in most branches of aeromodelling but I'm afraid helicopters have never appealed to me. Don't get me wrong - I admire the engineering in them and the undoubted skill required to fly them but I still consider helicopters the work of the Devil

The golden age of F3A? - well I flew competitively in this class from the mid 60s until the late 80s and always preferred the simplicity of the pre pipe/retract days. My favourite designs from that era would be the Superstar and the Moonglow - probably a bit before your time

No sweat on the magazine Ray. The work of the devil ? when i would sit up to the early hours of the morning trying to figure out how to use that last prog mix to the best advantage, i would probably have agreed with you.

Yeah, i think those two were before my time, i started flying in '83'..... I remember seeing recently a video of dave brown, wolfgang matt and of coarse Hanno fighting for top spot, in i think the late 70's

The thing that got me interested in precision flying was watching steve burgess doing a eight sided loop and some beautifull slow and 4 point rolls, only i went the rotary wing direction.

What's the saying? Helicopters don't fly, they beat the air into submission? Dave Brown is pretty good with his electric T-Rex. I've seen him fly it at our annual indoor trade show here in town. I suspect that his pattern experience translates to helicopters to some extent. I once asked him if he had lost interest in planes. He said no, and pointed at his F3P plane. He said that his interest in helicopters is at least partly a convenience factor. He can fly them in his backyard.

About the only place I have use of my german these days is reading german model flying magazines like FMT (Flugmodel und Technik).
I read some german model flying forum also.
