Did anyone else suffer from connecting up the elevator and rudder pushrods. According to the instructions it should be with the rudder elevator highest ( with plane upright) however this would have meant twisting the whole lot round as in the fuselage the rudder is the lowest of the pushrod tubes. I did mine opposite to the diagrams which meant I ended up with the ele and rudder servos on the other sides to the instructions and both the steering gear and throttle on the same side of the aircraft. It works out ok but I had to cut extra slots in the floor of the gear compartment.
just wondering if anyone else found this? Or have I done something stupid?

Jamie,

I'd like to use a couple of Lipos for my starter much like you have for yours. Could you share some pics and details on how you set it up?

Thanks, David

I have done a complete build thread on the curare in the classic pattern forum on RCGroups. I show how I did the controls.

Tony,

thanks. I just realized I wasn't very clear. I was referring to Jamie's electric engine starter. It's in one of his pictures below. I presume he's using a couple of 3s LiPo packs and I was wondering how he rigged it up.

That said, I hope the request is a quick one post detour from the thread.

TIA, David

The 55 AX with pipe is enough. I would not fit a 65 AX with a pipe as that would be too much, but I can see the attraction with simply bolting in a 65 AX and stock muffler for simplicity. I have a 65AX as well and it's very light. But will the stock muffler clear the nose gear?
I'm using the PIpe combo from www.justengines.co.uk with the wide header. I cut off about 3,5 cm off the header to work with an 11x9 APC.

Well I received my Curare 60 ARF last week and I have to say it is a very nice kit.

So the hunt is on. What mechanical retracts to use? MK is out due to parts and availability. I tried calling Leo to ask about the BD and no rely so what about Dave Brown? I do not what electric or air. I fly off of grass fields.

Also thinking about what engine to use. I have a choose of a few.

The Hobbico Mains work fine. Just use the screws to adjust out the play. The Hobbico nose is a tragedy. I would look at Robart mechanicals. They look to have a good belly mount type nose gear.

As to engines, the recommended O.S. .55AX on a pipe pulls it around pretty well. But you could obviously go with a lot of others. I would not recommend a rear exhaust. The plane flies better with an underslung pipe. The pipe down the side hurts the left rudder knife edge.

Hi Tony. I just bought a set of Dave Brown to try. Price was right.
I bet the plane flies better than I ever could how ever I choose to set it up.
Another slight problem is I've collected several engines and really do not know which one to choose in side or rear exhaust. If I could have a discussion please pm me your number.

Hello computermonkey
Did you get the DB retracts new? I looked for, but did not find any new DB retracts.
I've considered Springair retracts, the only downside being finding space to fit the air cylinder. I'm currently leaning towards MK retracts, as they can still be found on Japanese sites/shops- not cheap though.

I'm going to be using the OS AX 55 in mine ( actually I bought 2x Curare as I thought they were such a good deal)

Regards

Maybe time for me to grab a Curare before it gets phased out.

Just thought I might mention here that Dave Brown is officially no longer in the accessories business; however, the rights to his products were bought by Ohio Superstar and it was expected that they'd carry the line to some extent. From a quick visit to their site now, I see that they are, for all intensive purposes, carrying the full product line (except for the spinners still being sold under the DB brand). For all intensive purposes this makes them the new DB product distributor including the Southern pro mechanical retracts.

Shipping to the UK was 9 euros. Anyhow, if you purchase it and checkout, they will show the charge. If it says 30 euros, that's what it is, they will debit your card or paypal for the amount on the invoice. The only other charge may be US customs.
Modelsport are a very good supplier. I use them a lot for large purchases as they are much cheaper than here in the uk

Well, given the strength of the £ it's an even better deal now than it was a few months ago, when I bought a pair of them. I would have thought it was a really good deal with the dollar/euro exchange rate. I had great service from modelsport.
