RCAiir.com has the Arrow which I just bought, nice kit and available immediately. Upright engine, pipe down the top pf the fuselage, removeable cover for east access.
APC 11x7 with 15% nitro fuel, add 4 oz of castor for a total of 22% oil and that VF will haul and last forever, great engine.

There isn't much to look at RCAiir.com do they have any kind of catalog?
That one below is a nice plane.

Airraptor, I had this conversation with Dan Hines a few years ago. You can probably fit the 140 into the front of the EU1-A, but you will be moving the firewall further aft (the 140 is significantly longer than a 2-stroke .60) which will create problems mounting the nose gear. And you are going to need more ground clearance because the 140 spins a much larger prop (even if you go to 4 blades it will still be 15" in diameter). A flat mounted nose gear (perpendicular to the firewall) with a longer strut (and I would probably go with 3/16" for the nose gear) could be done - the retract position of the nose wheel would be further back from the wing LE. You would not lack for power and the wing area is large enough so that even with the additional weight of the engine and assuming you keep the total weight at or below 11 lbs the wing loading would not be exceptionally high. Just plan ahead. Your EU1-A will definitely be ballistic!

I have both the short stroke rear exhaust YS and the Long stroke side exhaust one. One is going on a calipso and the other on a H&M vertigo. I wont fly the EU1-A in pattern just sport fly. maybe another plane for the 140 then maybe a fast plane like my Vendetta lol.

Sorry about the blurry video but a sense of speed. My Tsunami has hit a top speed of 180 and I have done the sportsman with it at 170 lol. Stall turns are awesome better than some of the masters planes I have seen.

good question. I had just seen the pictures the day before posting them here myself so I don't know. By looking at it, I'd say he either hasn't installed steering yet or he plans to have none. I suspect the latter.
Perhaps you can put it to Sam to find out.
Beautiful Arrow indeed. What I like about many of the classic builds over on the UK forum is that they all undertake whatever build they have in mind with no hesitation. It doesn't matter whether there are metal. PET or FG parts that they need to manufacture - they just go ahead and do it!
I'd like to see some video of it. Their aim is low RPM (~10K) due to noise standards in the UK so he's going up in prop size once the RF is broken in. I think he's at ~11.5K at the moment on an 11x9.

I'd have to concur with you on the EU-1A and the 140 - go with a larger plane for it that is not designed for trike retracts.

Not sure which engine on the Calypso build yet. Its the arf version, so have to figure out which version it is.
copy on the EU1A.
The Tsunami is the plane raced in Reno Air Races. We do warbird racing out here in the west. Most gold planes hit 170 My Tsunami hit 180 on a two way average and the Vendetta hit a 184.5 on a two way average. Trying to reach 200 mph. Power is a YS115WS. Prop was a 14x14N at around 12,200 in the air.
The Tsunami when I did the sportsman pattern I ran 35% and a 14x13N prop

I'm not sure you would like the flight envelope tho. At 3+ hp the OS would need to be operated at half throttle or less and even there, that much prop could cause some strange flight conditions. If you are scratching, why not build it 10% larger all around?
It would be an interesting experiment....

airraptor,
FWIW,
Years ago, some of the local flyers tried the WM Zen 120 with the OS 1.40 and the Thunder Tiger 1.20 rear exhaust engines with pipes. Both combos were excellent flyers with unlimited vertical.
The 140 used a 4 blade prop for ground clearance and still had more than enough power. I used a two blade APC 16x10, 16x12 on the TT 120.
Though dated, the Zen 120 is still a very good flying model---I have thought about getting another just because of that.

You probably should pose the question on the Pattern Forum. I'd bet you that some of the guys out west have older glow models taking up space that they would part with since most of the guys are flying E-power these days. And you may find one or two within easy driving distance.
Pattern planes are the very best sport planes anyone can have.

Have EU-1A flying with 1000++ flights - all with short stroke OS 61V, YS60FR and Rossi 61 and currently the new YS61 Classic (best one yet and not fully wrung out yet). The fuse design for tri-gear and rear exhaust engines does restrict fuel tanks size, prop dia. to 11" (9 or 10 inch pitch on the more powerful short stroke YS60 and 61Classic) and engine size to a certain deck height (dimension from crank center-line to exhaust port center-line). Also, pipes for larger displacement rear exhaust motors are much longer and fatter than 61 size pipes, and there is very little clearance inside the tuned pipe tunnel even for a 61 pipe. I hold my breath every time I shove the 61 size pipe into the tunnel because its such a tight fit - it stresses the fuse top FG seam - you can see hairline crack in the paint!
Have not tried NOVAROSSI engines - but they do look mean, and they are inexpensive.
Haven't tried the YS61LS yet - primarily because it does require substantially longer overall exhaust length than the 61 short stroke. This requires minor firewall mod., tuned pipe tunnel lengthened and exhaust exit location on fuse top must be moved further aft to accommodate longer exhaust.
Even though OS 61V, YS60FR and Rossi 61 are no longer produced, they can still be found if patient but replacement parts availability for these engines is more difficult.
With a hi-performance rear exhaust 61, the EU1A truly is a fine performer in all flight modes and in executing the old school "ballistic" pattern type maneuvers. In my opinion, there is no need to use larger than 61 size engines on this air frame.

He's slow on being a webmaster and really fast at getting one of his 30+ kits out to you, up until this last fall anyway. I think by this fall he'll have a good website and his production back up to speed after his move from SoCal to Colorado. I have 6 unfinished kits from RCAiir, the UFO, Arrow, Atlanta, Mach1, Patricia, and P8 and I had them delivered as full kits with contest wood packs and formers. Very nice builders kits for those accustomed to glass and foam ships. Quick builds, and as well our favorite subjects in Classic Pattern.
Did you email Don at RCAiir for a kit list, Skybolt? You'll be surprised at all he has on offer.

Os 140 & eu1-a
Hey Airraptor, I have an OS140 RE in a Sam Turner Saturn which is an early 2 meter plane with an almost 80" wingspan. I fear this motor will be entirely too large and too heavy for the EU1-A, even though it is a larger 60 size pattern plane. The header itself would prohibit the motor from working since the one in my Saturn is almost 6" long.
Take care,
David
