Eyesight - Prism Lenses
I wrote about this on another thread. About five years ago, I started to see a shadow of the plane, almost like double vision. Close one eye, normal vision, no shadow.
This had been a hindrance to RC flying, and is the only place I would see it, and sometime watching a bird, concentrating on its flight, same thing.
Other then that, no problems. It became more pronounced to me, when I would stare at the smoke alarm in the bedroom after retiring for the day, and in the dark. The little light would be two. Close one eye, then one.
Eventually I had cataract surgery, then had new implants.
The doc wanted to wait on the double vision situation, after the new lenses and all was solid.
I did not wait. In the meantime, we sold the home in south FL, moved to SC. I wanted to fly more and correctly. Went to an eye surgeon up here.
He sent me to a specialist in that field.
I went thru many tests, he gave me a script, said you are good to go. I said, "Like that, that's all"? He sez, go get your prism glasses.
In this picture, I am wearing them, 100% correction, single plane, no problems. As we age, many things go on and off.

Vince,
I started wearing prism correction about 4-5years ago and agree, they have helped. No artificial lenses yet but that's probably coming.
what are the other specifications for your glasses? I mean are you using bifocals, blended or not, crizal anti glare, photo grey lenses such as transition, Zeiss glass hi index vs. regular plastic hi index, or other. I'm trying to get a feel for what to try next. Not happy with my current plastic hi glare crappy lenses.

Matt. Wish I could tell you more. I am at a loss on the technical stuff. This is on the invoice from LensCrafters. I had been going to the most expensive place in south Florida for over 11 years. When it came time to discuss double vision, etc., they were not up to speed as far as I was concerned, they kept selling me new stuff.
After cataract surgery, then the new lenses, as I posted, I got tired of all the hassle. The prism glasses are auburn (brown) color, and if you never had that color, get it, it far surpasses charcoal or grey, especially in the sun. I do not get polarized. Polarized really screws up the instruments at close range, plus the transmitters we use. I was really surprised that LensCrafters had my script on the shelf. She said, "You are a common situation, nothing special".
Here is the specs on the invoice:
PG MVP Featherwates Classic (Poly) Custom Tint Total cost: @281.92 with tax, that includes the frames.
The doc I went to here in SC, I needed a 5 week wait app't. He mainly does children from a 200 mile radius of his office in Greenville, SC, and only takes one adult a day. There are many kids with eye problems, and he is the best in these parts. I did get progressive lenses, with only 3 levels. Bio-Focals, yes, no line. No transitions. I have had bad luck with transitions. I am not sure about anti-glare. If I got that, I forget the conversation.
Flying the planes, perfect. I also find, that the more I wear them, take them off, the correction stays for a while, like the brain is re-trained. Lens-Crafters guarantees you fit for one year, and you can buy the extra insurance. I drive with no glasses on at all, and if sun out, I just use regular sun glasses. There are sunglasses, etc., out there now, on e-bay and amazon, you can get 6 pair for $15.00, even bio-focals, simple stuff, 0.50-1.00-1.50, etc., etc. They look like the $300.00 glasses everyone else sells.
Amazing things these guys can do.
