Default Prettner’s 1987 Supra Star 60 build thread

Hi all

Finally I found a lot of time in quarantine days of COVID19 to make one of my favorites.

this will be an image based thread with no or less explanation.

Ehsan,

outstanding build!

congratulations on a beautiful job.

I see that Deluxe Materials is well represented in your neck of the woods.

I’m expecting some water borne (WB) Sand ‘n’ Seal wood grain sanding sealer from them in a day or two. Curious if it’s as effective as dope based products.

BTW, I’m not sure the WB Eze-Kote Polycrylic is very fuel proof. It’s a glass embedding resin. They do have a product called Eze-Dope which is also WB and is fuel proof to 40% nitro (tested). I thinks it’s essentially cross linked Polycrylic or something similar. Intended for attaching tissue to light wood frameworks but works for fuel proofing firewalls too! Of course, the Z-Poxy Finishing Resin is amazing too.

David

P.S. Interesting wing attachment method!

Hi David,

I have used EZ dope on my tissue covered P-30 rubber planes a lot.

have not tested if it is fuel proof or not but I’m sure its not water proof unless is applied in several thinned layers or a straight coat.

the other product I love is cover grip. It works just like its thinner based brother “stix it” .

dries fast and sticks well after applying heat and pressure even on oily balsa.

I have also used EZ dope on my F2B planes to seal poly span covering

Default Supra Star

Really well done job, congratulations, how much does it weigh in flight order? I have just finished building the Calypso from Rodney Ford's plan and would like to make another Prettner model, is it possible to have a copy of the Supra Star project?

Thanks in advance for the answer

Hi,

plans are available in “ outerzone.co.uk “ for free download, but the name is dupli star instead of Supra Star.

Weight without fuel is 3570gr
powered with OS AX 75 turning a 12x8 prop

I also tested 13x7 but flys better with 12x8
and now after 40 flys has been trimmed well, and now I just flip the prop and enjoy.

strongly recommended to build.

by the way please share some photos of your newly born Calypso.
