Curare 60 - Build

RE: Curare 60 - Build
I recently built from the Eureka Aircraft short kit. Overall a good way to go now the MK kits have all been spoken for. Given you have a bit of building experience, grab the parts listing / drawings from Eureka and spend a few minutes working out which bit is which (reasonably intuitive, but parts are not marked!), it is well worth it.

RE: Curare 60 - Build
Howdy Guys,
I just picked up a Curare this evening. This looks bigger than a 60 size plane, Did they build a bigger one? It has a fiberglass fuselage with foam core 2 piece wings with an aluminum joiner. It has not been completed as the guy that had it passed away and another guy ended up with this plane. The gentleman was setting it up for a OS pumped 120..
Is there any information available? I've read most of the old post but none with wing span, length, Weight, balance position and control surface measurements.
Any information is much appreciated.

Mmm... Not having seen it and if I was a betting man, I'd say most likely not a Curare.
It's just the catch word for any pattern classic these days. It's sort of like if it has anhedral in the stab, it's got to be a Curare...
Indeed, pics!

Can't wait to see that taildragger go, and just love that main gear. It looks really cool compared to the straight legged conversions I've seen that one looks almost as good as the trike gear, but NO hassle with steering, or grass fields .

Ratt,
As I suspected, not even close to a Curare as you can see. This plane was designed and developed 20 some years later. It was designed for turn around and is indeed setup for a piped 120.
I know this plane as I've seen it before but the name escapes me. I want to say Typhoon but not quite.

I seen the difference right away, But thanks David. If you happen to remember the name I'd like to know it. I didn't get into Pattern ships and flying until a little over 10 years ago. Then with the years I haven''t flown I'm out of the flow of Radio Control period. Everything has changed..

RE: Curare 60 - Build
Hello Everybody:
where can I get a new kit for a Curare? How big is the difference in cost between an old vintage, original kit, against a new kit?
thank you!

RE: Curare 60 - Build
Marcelo,
As they say, an original MK Curare 60 is priceless.
It is not a very difficult plane to build though if you have some kits under your belt.
The trickiest part is getting the stab to wing relationship right and getting the anhedral stab bang on. Models with anhedral stabs are trickier to align than models with flat or airfoiled stabs with no anhedral or dihedral. You really want to install the stab last once the wing and fuse have been squared up.
Going with foam core wings and stabs ought to also make for a truer model.

Have you tried looking on www.aerofred.com??? There is another website (can't think of it right now) that has free RCM plans but I am not sure if the Curare was an RCM article.
I hope that might be of some help to you...

No, in fact I haven't had a day off in over a year. I wish I could get caught up with orders. I would like to go flying myself once the snow melts here. Or at least be working on some of my own builds that have been on the back burner for 5 years.

Outerzone has the plans in several sizes. The 60 size also has all the templates for download. Outerzone
A good friend had one many years ago. One day he was making a low landing pattern to bleed off as much speed as possible when it gently settled in the top of a tree some 150 yards out. Engine idling and gear down it just sat there. My friend retracted the landing gear and, slapping full throttle to his Webra Speed the model just leaped out of the tree. He continued for a perfect landing. Not a scratch on the model.

Well that is probably true David. I had to put 4 kids through College and 2 are at home now. But that's what it's all about for me. I enjoy putting kit orders together too. If you enjoy what you're doing it's not work. I think after this year I should have my new shops built and room for everything. It will be a sweet setup for the rest of my days.
I've still got dozens of molds to make for new kits. I don't see it letting up any time soon. It's all good.
