Kraft Kwik Fli
Does anyone still fly an original Kwik Fli like the one pictured here with Phil Kraft? What do I need to recreate one, just a set of plans and some 70's style Dubro wheels? What ever happened to Phil Kraft?

Tommy,
There is quite a bit of interest in the vintage pattern planes. The Kwik Fli III, as in the picture, is now being kitted by homeandhobbysolutions.com. Jeff can get you a new, laser cut kit which I guarantee will be easier to build than the Top Flite. Check this forum out and you will probably see a link. Jeff also makes a laser cut Taurus kit (named the Primus for mkt purposes)... He is a small manufacturer.... do business with him.. you won't be disappointed.

I’m a huge Kwik Fli III fan too, but prefer the fiberglass and taper foam wing version. I’ve built a number of the Howard Engineering versions that have a glass fuselage and foam wing and I’m flying one now http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2434444/tm.htm After being out of production for 30 years production was started for awhile last year but unfortunate was discontinued again. I was able to get one of the new production kits last year and it is one of my treasured possessions. I’m on the waiting list to get one of Jeff’s reproduction kits too.

The Top Flite Kwik Fli III was my 3rd and what I considered my first real RC airplane back in 1972. I remember that cardboard jig that came with it.

Tommygun,
The Kwik Fli III reproduction I am going to kit is based on the MAN prints. I checked their "Plans" site and did not find the Kwik Fli III listed (http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/li...d=41&catego=PL) . They do show the "Flea Fli" which is a scaled down Kwik Fli. The plans at http://plans.rcmodell.hu/plansport.html are fairly accurate with minor deviations. As for my kit release, I am still shooting for mid-March. My "real job" has been requiring a large amount of time in the past 4 weeks.
As for Mr Kraft, if he is still alive he is 80 years old. Here's a link to a biography on Phil Kraft: http://arne.nohlberg.com/smfk/Kraft-Phill.pdf .
Hope this info helps.

I drew the Plans that you can dowload at http://plans.rcmodell.hu/plansport.html also the plans are still avalible from Model Airplane News but they are listed in the sport catagory not pattern. also if any one would like me to send a DXF file of the plans just send me an e-mail I also have created NC code for Laser cuting all the parts that I can send anyone interested.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy some of those 'classic chrome centred dubro wheels', or a similar reproduction? The present grey variety do not look right on a classic pattern ship!
Thanks John

Good question!
How about the Kavans? They look similar.
Check: http://www.wholesaletrains.com/Detail.asp?ID=200406664
