This is my first Super Kaos shown here in 1978. I agree get some plans and get going. Nothing better than flying something you built. I have just finnished a new one and it sure takes me back, flys just as I remember. Sorry guys, new to this uploading of images and seem to have 2.

don't despair I know exactly how you feel.

I rebuilt my forty size Kaos after losing the wing, straight in, buried the engine a foot in the ground.

I have tracings of the forty and sixty size kits just in case.

Stuntnick,

Well I got the Classic Pattern bug a couple of years ago and just like you found a wealth of information and help form others here at RCUnverse.

Right now I'm finishing up a 40 sized Utter Chaos I got for $30 put together and covered but was never finished.

If you're looking for a kit, Laser Works has short kits of the Super Kaos Jr. (40 size), Super koas 60, and a recently added a 25% larger version of the SK60 with a 73 1/2" wingspan.

Here's the link - http://lazer-works.com/rcm.html

This list represents planes the appeared in Radio Control Modeler Magazine (RCMMag). Scoll to the bottom to see the Super Kaos's.

The short kit prices are as follows;

SK Jr. 40 - $49.85
SK 60 - $69.35
25% larger then the SK 60 - $91.85

I bought both the 40 and 60 short kits from them and they appear to be very well cut short kits. They both came shrink-wrapped so I did not want to open them til I got around to building them. Also Eureka Aircraft is offering a multitude of Classic or Vintage Pattern Plane short kits. The Owner is a very friendly guy and I very much enjoyed talking with him. Here's their link - http://www.eurekaaircraft.com/

I also purchased the SK Jr 40 and SK60 RCM plans from the RCM website link - http://www.rcmplans.com/index.php?ma...ort=20a&page=6

I hope to maiden my Utter Chaos in the next couple of weeks.
Lots to see and learn.
Regards
Bryan

Well, I can't disagree with you in the slightest. The Kaos is an ultra easy model to build successfully and it doesn't require lots of skill to get very flyable results.

Thanks Bryan and everybody else for all the help.
I feel alive again, Thanks for the list of supliers. I understand that there are several versions of the KAOS. I even heard of the CHAOS but I forgot where…?
So I will definitely buy either a short kit or a full kit.
Can you tell me one more thing: How good is the BRIDI BlueJay kits. They are so much cheaper ($100) than the other kits and even the short kits.
This Utter Chaos you are finishing is from Bluejay kits ?

I still have the plans of my Kaos 60 and must be the same as RCM # 421, I can simply order a short kit and would be all set.

Regards,
Nick

I would order a foam wing from a cutter for the Kaos. Applying wing skins is super easy and the results are usually very straight and light. Then, building the fuselage is a snap. I prefer the looks of the Super Kaos fuselage to that of the original Kaos. It fares the spinner into the fuselage instead of having that nasty open looking front of the original Kaos.

Here's my 1970 version Kaos from the RCM plans and a Lazer Works short kit. I have the servos placed on top of the fuselage to work out the initial Cg using the Vanessa Cg rig. The engine is a Veco .61 and the radio is a Kraft SS Series 80 with KPS-14 servos. So far, the airframe weight is around 2.5 lbs.

Silk and dope on the wing, silkspan and dope on all the solid parts. I'd like to keep the flying weight not more than 6 lbs.

I guess I'm a Kaos newbie. Just acquired my first Kaos, an old Tower Kaos 60 kit. The kit is in great shape, but no plans or instructions. This is the 61.5" wingspan version. Called Tower to see if I could buy a set of plans... they had a part number in their computer, but no plans available. Gonna power this with a vintage Kraft .61.

Can anyone provide some critical measurments so I can draw my own wing... like recommended cg, amount of LE sweep, aileron placement and shape, ...anything else from the instructions that would keep me out of trouble?

You really dont need plans for that. Every Kaos I have ever built has pre knotched leading an trailing edges. With a 2-5/16" holes in each rib. these get slid over 2 steal rods(you can buy at a hardware store)Simply place these 2 steal rods with ribs slipped over them, an slip the ribs into the knoched leading an trailing edges.
I have that kit in my shop. I would be more than happy to copy it an send it to you, but its really not necessary. you make the call. if you want send me a e-mail at

Falcon,

Thanks for making me think a bit. I have a GP wing jig, so the 5/16" holes will shape the wing for me.

The design of this model was built around the Kaos wing.

Falcon,

Checked the kit contents... the ribs in my kit do not have holes for the jig rods. I would appreciate a copy of the plans and happy to pay costs. Please PM me for my address.

Thanks,

Hello hrrcflyer. I've been flying for 3 yrs now and have a Tower kaos 40 and love flying it. I noticed that you converted your kaos to a taildragger and would like to convert mine as well, but Im not sure exactly how to do it without disrupting the CG or the flying characteristics too much. I was wondering if you could tell me what measurments you used for the main landing gear, which kind of gear to buy, how far forward to place the gear, and what kind of tail wheel to use. I am running a Super Tigre .51 with a 11x5 APC prop. Any information would be greatfully appreciated. Thank you so much ... Dave.
ORIGINAL: hrrcflyer

George,

I believe you will have two problems with trying to put a Saito 82 in the Kaos. The first thing is that the motor is fairly large and the rear mounted carb only compounds the problems. The second thing is that the Saito is also heavy which will cause ballance problems. If you are curious as to how I know, I put a YS53 in my Tower Kaos and it gave a new meaning to the phrase PITA. See attached picture. I also converted my Kaos to a taildragger which was very simple to do.

Good luck with your plane and let us know how it turned out.
