Kaos 90 built from plans. Power Saito 120. Wish there was an ARF, it would have been much cheaper! Almost ready to go airborne. Sometimes I think I like building as much as flying.

Yes, there are quite a few of us. I have a Tower Kaos 40 partly-built on my workbench. Work has been delayed the last seven months by medical issues but I'm looking forward to getting back to it soon. Cribbed a bunch of ideas from this thread that I am incorporating in the build.

Sky, what`s your secret for cutting the covering so precise and neat ? I would love to be able to do the same quality job for my planes. Thanks

I really don’t have a secret. I just cut the covering with a straight edge.I think maybe the neat part you see is nothing more than 1/8 inch auto pin stripping between the colors.I get it at the auto parts stores, comes in many colors.I used black for this plane.I used blue for a red/white plane.It comes in a roll and it’s peal and stick.I first clean with alcohol and then I put down one end and pull tight and stick down the other end for straight lines. Well I made my Kaos 90 maiden flight this afternoon. The pilot was a little unstable, but the plane flew very well. Just three clicks of trim!! Was a little worried, I thought the C/G was a little too far back, but it proved to be spot on. Plenty of power, flew mostly at half throttle. I think I'm really going to enjoy this plane. The color scheme works really well in the air.

No, I just flew to trim, test the CG and get a feel for the throws. Power is a 120 Saito with a master airscrew 15/8. I had to go with a 15 inch due to ground clearance. I think a 16/6 would be better. Should have added a little extra on the landing gear length or larger wheels. I like a nose slightly low sitting on the wheels. The weight is about 10.5 pounds. Was a little worried about the center joint of the wing, no spars to join the wing hafts, just glue and some fiberglass tape.
Will post more as I get some airtime.

Flew the Kaos again this afternoon. Yes, at full throttle it goes straight up. It went quite a ways before I throttled back. Flies like it's on rails. Made a nice landing and the mains still sagged out of shape. Looking into the next size wire. 1/4 inch, I think.

I just read this thread with interest as I really like the Kaos. I've researched a few models and have decided to build the Kaos. Mine will be a stick built tail dragger. I draw my own plans so it will be a look-a-like Kaos. Hopefully! LOL Hope it looks as nice as some of the models pictured here.

I was enroute to my local club field last spring when I got a call from another member. He said he was there with a gentleman who had some planes I might be interested in. When I arrived there was a fellow there who said he flew back in the 70's and he had a Bridi Kaos 60 with Kraft Sport Series radio and an Enya 60 III and also had a powered glider with a Tower Hobbies (Kraft) 3 channel radio and an Enya 15. We chatted for a while and he said he couldn't fly any more and did I have any interest in the planes. I asked him how much he wanted and he said take them and put them back in the air. He didn't have to say that twice and my car was filled with a Kaos and glider and a couple of Kraft radios. I took the radios out and put them in my old radio cabinet and pulled out the Enya 60 due to not having a quiet muffler for it. I replaced the Enya with a Webra 61 Blackhead with muffler and replaced the radio with my Spektrum DX9. The 45 year old Webra hand fires within 6 flips and the old Kaos is still one of the best flying planes I have ever had. You can do all sorts of maneuvers and then slow her down to a tail touch first landing. I think Joe Bird really hit the nail on the head with the Kaos design. Now 45 year later I have replaced my old Kaos 60 with another old Kaos 60 and I love it.

I had been out of the hobby until last year. I bought a PT-40 from Tower and built it to learn on again. It took me 4 instructor assisted flights and I was soloing again. Am building an Ugly Stik 60 now. But during that time I have found online and purchased 3 KAOS kits to build and fly once I relearn a little more.. A KAOS 60. a Super KAOS 60 and a KAOS 40.. Gotta get building!! Can't wait until I get one back in the air!! Here is a photo of the KAOS I had in the mid 90s.

My "OLD" KAOS was a great plane to fly. Needed some cash so I ended up selling all the RC stuff I had. Glad to be back into it now.. Again, can't wait for the KAOS, well one of them to get built...SOON!

Hey MadManMarko if you think you wanna give up that Enya 60 give me a shout I may be interested in that motor. I have a hangar queen that I don't fly anymore and that Enya can have a nice "display home"

I'll use the pictured rib templates for a build up wing. This will be a stick build, a bit different. I'll call it the Somewhat Kaos.

kaos 60 or 90?

I used a printout of the 90 and Killer Chaos to work out my measurements. I like the tail on the Killer so that is what I went with. Yesterday I finished drawing my lines. Today I'll do a final review. Then start on the tail feathers. It is always exciting starting a build. Wingspan 76” length 72”. It should fit in my Jeep for transport. I measured the Jeep too. Lol.

I've been anxious to start building. But totally not ready. Home projects have been in the way. My sanding bars need new sandpaper. My building station is covered with things. I need to remove all the stuff and turn the drywall sheet over to work on a clean surface. I'm redoing the partitions in 2 drawers. All building stuff in the drawers is totally mixed up. Hope to fix all that tomorrow.

But today I just needed to cut some wood to officially start. I made my first mistake too. The 2 stab tip pieces were cut too short. Not sure how I did that. I'll cut new pieces. The trash pieces will be used somewhere else.

The roll of plastic on the left is furniture wrap. I used it when I moved some furniture down to Florida. It worked really well. I'm going to see if it is a good plans protection cover. If it works I'll have enough for 50 more builds. Lol.

Anyway, I've started. Now it will be either a fast or slow build.

I cleaned off my work station. Turned the drywall sheet over and added plan and furniture wrap as a plans protector. I will see how that film works with glue. The drywall sits on a torsion box that I made. The box is adjustable if it ever goes out of level. I check for level before starting a build. I made the partitions for the drawers. Lots of stuff in the drawers. I need to sort it out and put it back in the drawer, less what I will not need. The work station is on wheels so I can roll it around. The surface is 30x82", plenty for my needs. An overhang allows for clamping. I can work all around unit if needed. The workspace will get cluttered soon.

I cut some of the pieces and realized I had missed drawing in 2 half inch lines. This is what led me to believe the tip pieces were cut short. So no waste pieces. I should start gluing this Tuesday.

Well I started gluing. I try to avoid sticking pins in balsa. So I use a different approach to holding the sticks when able. It has worked well for me. Of course sometimes you just have to stick pins in balsa. I started late so not too much done. Tomorrow I'll finish the stab and start on the elevators.

I went to the local Dollar Tree store. Browsing in the toy area I found a balloon air pump. Thinking RC I went ahead and paid the $1.00. It will come in handy for blowing dust off the plans or the airplane frame or many other uses. It really blows a lot of air and pumping it hard will give you good air pressure. IMO worth the dollar. I have been using a squeeze air bulb. The pump will be better.
