Pulsar Bipe Kit Info
Does anyone out there have any info or a lead on a Pulsar bipe kit or "slightly" used one? You know "only flown by a little old lady in Novice".
Thanks,
Rich

RE: Pulsar Bipe Kit Info
I flew one that was given to me NIB by a relative as a gift, back in the mid '80's. Great flying airplane it was, with an OS .61 FSR. I flew the bejeezus out of it, and sold it to another flyer who spruced it up and also flew the bejeezus out of it.
I have seen a couple for sale on the 'Bay in the last few months, but they command some steep prices. Good luck with your search.

Wasn't the Pulsar designed and flown in pattern competition by Tony Frackowiack (sp?), ex World Engines engine tinker? Or am I thinking of another model. I believe Tony was pushing the biplane for a while back in the Seventies or Eighties.

Hi Ed,
The Pulsar was designed by Norm Cassella (from NJ as I recall) back around 1975. I remember seeing him fly it the NERCM contest. He did some great demo flying with it: low, horizon to horizon knife edge especially. Everybody wanted one!! I never had one, but I did build a SunRay from RCM plans which flew as well (or better IMHO) as the Pulsar - easy knife edge loops!
Tony flew the Fyg Leaf (powered by a YS longstroke) at the '89 FAI F3A world championships. The plane flew well, but was clearly underpowered - flew the smallest maneuvers at the contest. It was only Tony's great piloting skills that allowed him to make it into the finls. Would be perfect for a YS 110! I believe the Fyg Leaf was design by Ken Bonema (SP??). I've asked Tony in the past if he was interested in making plans available, but I think it would take a lot of work as the original was built from 'working drawings'.
There was another bipe at the '89 WC called the Shamrock, flown by Tobias Schultz - which also made it to the finals. He had an OS 1.20 in his and had plenty of power. The Shamrock was actually pretty close to current pattern bipes with high aspect ratio wings and minimal separation between them. I have a kit of the Shamrock imported from Germany. The Fyg Leaf had a much more traditional biplane design.

Here's my Pulsar in 1978. K&B 61 pumper with pipe. Absolutely wonderful airplane. Sold in the early 80s. I am interested in building something close to replace it and thought I had a lead on some Sig Skybolt plans, but that may be falling through.

Jeff,
There are pictures of the Shamrock in the December '89 Model Aviation report on the WC. I also have some here at home. IF I can find them, I'll scan and post.
Model Aviation is archived on the AMA website. If you're an AMA member you can search for them there.

Jim,
If you're still interested in a Sig Skybolt, my LHS has a NIB kit of the plane. I'm almost positive he will let me borrow the plans in order to get a copy made of them or possibly get them scanned into PDF format. Send me a PM and let me know.

Dave:
I guess one would have to be pretty ambitious to build from the plans, but it could be done. I'm surprised to see that the Pulsar has a semisymmetrical airfoil. I would have thought it to be fully sym.
Would be nice for someone to make a fuse plug and sell fuses. Jim

Dean, I have several plans I need to get copied so I'll get the Pulsar scanned, too, while I'm at it. I found a place in town that only charges about 18ΒΆ per sq.' for scanning and printing. Funny thing, the lady who works there told me that the late Dan Santich used to get his copies made there years ago.
Maybe you can mail me a set of Maya plans and we'll call the shipping even?

Oh, David,
The plans that I have to copy are for the MK II, not the MK V in the Hobbypoxy ad.
The #5 pencil drawings were lost a house move or three ago. It bugs the heck out of me, too!
