Kaos ARF initial setup
Bought a used Kaos ARF in perfect shape last week and I want to get ready for some SPA competition next year. I've been researching airplane setup and would like some input on initial settings for trim. I'm using a Robart incidence meter to check everything. As stock, the wing had -1 degree incidence compared to the stabilizer, and the engine was at -2 degrees down and 1 degree right. I've already shimmed the wing to 0 degrees with the stab and the landing gear is set to give -1 at rest. I have also checked everything for straightness and had to break out the heat gun on both wing panels and both sides of the stabilizer to get everything right, but at least I know my measurements are good. Some threads I've seen say to go with a 0-0-0 setup while others say as much as +1 on the wing and -3 on the engine. Are any of you experienced Kaos fliers willing to share your proven setups?

RE: Kaos ARF initial setup
0-0-0 might work out to start, If Iremember right the -1 degree in the wing should be about where you would want it. wing -0.5 to -1.0, stab 0.
The engine thrust depends really on the power of what you put in it. I'd start with the down and right thrust it had. Or at least 1 down, 1 right. If going overpowered, you will need more right thrust.
In the end though, you wont know untill you fly her, and see what it does in the air through the tests..

Mine is the Kaos ARF from Tower Hobbies. I needed 2Degrees of right thrust & left the wing & stab alone. It is powered with an OS 55AX. When i had the OS 40LA in it the motor wasa at O degrees also. I use it to practice my IMAC sequences & it flies just fine for that......Gene

RE: Kaos ARF initial setup
I have a 46 FX so it's well powered but not over powered. I know I have to fly it to really get it right, but was hoping to start with a proven good setup to minimize the adjustments. So Kaoses normally fly with negative thrust in the wing then to be neutral handling?

I didn't measure either one of mine, but they both fly well. The 55AX powered one is a little nose heavy, it trims out with a 1/16th of up elevator. The 46AX powered one is all neutral, the controls are all streamlined. I put the batteries under the the back of the servo tray to try to get it as rearward as possible.

The original Super Kaos 60( from RCM Plans) called for -2 degrees down, 0 right /0 left , +1/32" wing, 0 stab. I'm not sure if they have changed them for the ARF version ( they changed the size - its larger).

RE: Kaos ARF initial setup
Thanks for all the info guys. It sounds like it'll at least make a successful first flight with a 0-0 setup with the thrust I have, so I'll try it and see. I set up the throws according to the manual except for no dual rate on the rudder which I split the difference between high and low. Any other setup suggestions would be appreciated. I want to get it right ASAP so I can start practicing maneuvers instead of working on my airplane.
