The Nutcracker and the Intruder were both designed by Jim Kirkland. He designed the Nutcracker before the Intruder. I would guess that the Intruder is probably a derivitive of the Nutcracker.j

I have some old pictures somewhere and if I can locate one I'll post it here.

"was" i'm afraid WEDJ. Bruno was killed in an air crash many years ago. His brother Emil, another excellent flier, is still around.

I always wondered what happened to Bruno. Very innovative designer! He flew the first (and probably only) variable sweep wing pattern ship and possibly the first inverted, rear exhaust (OS .61VF) design at 2 different FAI F3A WC events. One of the designs was the Scorpion, if memory serves. The other I have forgotten. Both came after the Marabu.
Was he flying at the time of the accident?

Of the good classic SPA legal designs, I'd have to claim the Compensator was my favorite
But I will acknowlege that Blue Angel as one heck of an airplane !
From a performance standpoint, the Tipo 750 was a real workhorse.
I remember when I brought my first EU1-A to the field the first time and people said "Man, that is a BIG plane !". Nothing ever matched the slow rolls I stretched out with that aircraft. At the the same time, nothing ever made me cringe and pray as much as this plane when trying to get to the top of a square loop with half rolls [&:]
The Maya was pretty darn awesome --- That was the last of my "pattern" planes before pattern pretty much turned into giant scale. I think Dean has something there...... full enclosed FIRE 90LX and pipe ..... a basic 11x8 up front .... push a bit over 15,500 rpm or so. I bet it would move rather nicely set up for full ballistic mode [8D]

I find the Curare to be the one I liked best of all, followed by any of Don Lowe's Phoenix models.
The brown and white one is from the seventies. Copied Dave Brown's paint scheme, the black, orange and white one I currently use for SPA and will most likely fly in Huntsville at their next BPA event.

Hi Jeff,
In my humble opinion, it is just as fast and just maybe faster than some of the Compensators, Tiger Tails and such. The Phoenix 5 would give it a run for it's money. Most folks who see the SPA sleek planes fly can't believe their speed, wheels down and all. It is a OS-91, 24% Cool Power and a 13.5 x 9 competition prop from APC.
It really flies great and will slow roll from county line to county line as the old saying goes!
Best
