Depending on the canopy material, Black Rit dye does a nice job and you don't have to worry about paint flaking off. It will turn out translucent grey.

Be careful painting your canopy black. I had one that severely deformed in the time it took me to walk in to the house, grab the camera, and come back out to take pics. Dang Texas sun!! If you do go with black, I'd suggest drilling a small inconspicuous vent hole in it somewhere.

I put a 1/16 vent hole in the fuselage under the canopy at the very back tip of the canopy where in most cases it is not visible.

I think the Rit dye method works really well and you won't have to worry about the paint peeling or such after you glue it down never to removed again. The longer you leave it in the dye the darker it will get. Although I think you might only get a very dark tint. Here's a pic of the canopy I dyed for my challenger.[8D]

Does Rit dye work on all canopy materials ? I tried once to paint the canopy for a Kaos, after 3 days it still came out without any color, I used less than 1/4 gallon of water to prepare it.

regards.

Another thing to just be aware of is that the paint you use does not attack the plastic

If you use Rit Dye, be sure to purchase the POWDERED dye. Rit also has a liquid dye made which dosen't do as well on plastics. They wanted it that way so dyed clothes wont dye a washing machine.

I used the liquid Rit and it worked fine for me. I let it simmer just under a boil for about an hour and used a high concentrate mix. It worked pretty good on the cat too.

If you paint on the inside it won't matter if you use flat or gloss....
