Default prop size differences

when we classic pattern fans stray from 11-12 inch props to larger (22") props we should be more careful. i do, however, enjoy flying my big Extra 300. of course this happened during the only day i have ever seen our field empty except for me. and yes i still flew a couple of times before heading for some ice and bandages.

another 1/8" deeper and i would have had to abandon my plane at the field and head for help. not too bad considering.

Yep, you got real lucky there! I found out the hard way that there's a little thing called a radial artery right about there inside MY arm a few yrs ago! The accident was work related not involving any props, but it cost me a couple of pints of blood, ambulance ride, two hrs in surgery, and two days in the hospital. Not to mention the gigantic medical bills! Glad to hear you're alright

ouch, yeah you got to be careful.. I should take a pic of my box one day and post. with my starter your holding the plane from behind and have No reason to reach around it. but really big planes you have no choice but they scare me.
glad it was not worse for you, flying alone is dangerous

Man, sorry to read about this. Keep it clean and well bandaged. Just out of curiosity, was it an APC? I have almost completely stopped using them. I have too many cuts and scars on my right fingers.

But, I know what you're getting at about "memorizing" the arc of 11" props. I can understand how that happened, since your arm gets in the habit of reaching a certain distance to clear the prop.

Dave,

Do you cut yourself often when handling knives? No? Why? Because you are aware they might cut you and take the apprpriate precautions. Right?

Sorry. I just get tired of hearing how those mean old APCs 'cut you up'.

yes it was an APC. which i usually sand the edges with 400 or so grit sandpaper. just to eliminate the paper type cuts that seem occur a lot with apc props.

dhal, your a bit on the crazy side. I was sitting here thinking of all the times I had an injury similar to yours. Mainly the ones that I got doing something that I'm supposed to be knowing what I'm doing at the time, but I don't have any pictures of the incidents. To stop and take a pic for us.. now that is determination for sharing. I guess when I consider the time it takes to get a camera out in between building steps and say it's too much of a hassel, I'll have to start telling myself I'm just being lazy. [:@]
Seriously, I'm glad to here that it wasn't as bad as it looks, because it does look pretty bad.

i knew the guys here would get a kick out of the photo, that was the only reason i took it. plus it's a different topic for us, a change of pace so to speak. it is healing just fine and in response to my uncle, yes the salt water is keeping it clean. sorry guys, for clarity's sake i'm at the beach this week.
