RE: Finish the Phoenix-Paint
Crank, I like the scheme you've used on the bottom of this plane as compared to the last couple you've done. This should show up real well.
The pictures below show how bright the red actually is. In your pictures it almost looks orange. Must be the lighting.

Hey Bob - You are right. Especially when you keep telling me to "keep the wing's level". I will let it sit for a couple days, unless I get some time to wet sand this, tape for the blue. I have to get some work done around the ranch. I am going up to Apopka to see some Pylon friend's Saturday. Orlando is out of the country until after Christmas. We are going to get together on more FVPA promotion. Another club has come on board for a SPA contest next year.

This is it. Final paint. Take the paper and masking tape off in a little while, do one more picture before wet sanding. I can rest a while, let it sit. Other project's to catch up on. There is red-white-blue under all that paper, time to clean up the shop. There is red meeting blue on the bottom of wing, unlike the other wing's on top. Some repeat photo's here.

Hey MadMan - It's even nicer today, only 79, may hit 80, no humidity. I have shoveled plenty of snow, too much. When I was in grade school, in the winter in Pennsylvania, we had to walk to school. Five miles one way, all uphill, and when it snowed, we had to take a shovel to school to get back home.
Talk about the name "Mad Man". Did you ever hear of the "Michigan Mad Man" ? He strapped a Chevy V-8 into a bike frame back in the early 60's, maybe before that. He may have been the first to do that. The next picture's I post of this P-6, is when equipment installed and finished.

Mark,
I snow-blew the driveway twice yesterday and once this morning. This ***** sucks. On the good side, I think I'm going to start the Jr Skylark today. We got 12-14 inches here.

That Michigan Mad Man would be EJ Potter wasn't he. Had that small block in the bike was insane but now they call them Boss Hoss at your local dealer.
All us Mad Man types should stick together.
Have fun painting. It stopped snowing but all is frozen at 10 degrees with 20-30 knot winds. Take to long to dry up here.
Peace

Yes an happy holidays to you all
Got my equiptment installed in my pattern ship project ,with only the lateral balance to complete and thats a big question mark since I did not get a chance to do the touch up AND clear coat, before Winter set in on us Marylanders-
Can't wait to see what difference in aerobatic performance I get with all digital servos ,my last T.T. IV being "coreless B.B. servos but NOT digital with their notable holding power I think[8D]

We're in a climate similar to Northern Vermont - except the city is on an island with no mountains around it.
At present minus 4F and snow up to our ears! [&:] but the wind isn't blowing so we're happy.
Xmas day is expected to warm up and be gray []
Happy holidays to all! Hope Santa brings you lots of CA

Starting to Finish. Waiting for warmer weather, final coat of clear. Engine in for tank plumbing, make throttle cable. Retracts ready to install, pushrod's done. Get the CG right, final adjustment on NG, then cut for clearance. When clear applied, the gloss will return, all paint separation edge's are blended.

RE: Finish the Phoenix-Paint
Hey Crank,
Regarding the V-8 in a bike frame, the first one I saw was a Cadillac done by Carl and Bob Austin from Rochester, NY. They also had a 27 T Roadster, that was a real show car. They were members of "The Gents" rod club, a very active and organized group, that ran a '32 five window club drag car.kind of a local Bean Bandits. If you grew up in that atmosphere you know what I mean. All this was of course before RC.
Enough of the past. Missed you at the Tangerine, hope everything is well.
By the way, how do you like the Focus you are tackling?
Al

Hey Al - I was down with a bad cold the week of the Tangerine. I registered, ready to go, two days before departure, I was slammed.
I have to get this P-6 done, if I start on the Focus, that will be it, as I have tunnel vision, everything else sit's. My first stab at 2 meter, and first YS engine. Plan is two of them, see what I can do AMA Pattern. Finish anyplace above last is good for me.
Not enough SPA action in FL either. We are promoting the FVPA, (florida vintage pattern assoc.), in the state of FL, and will try to visit more clubs in 2009, trying to bring more on board for SPA/BPA contest's.
The Focus build is new to me. Wing adjuster's, incidence set up, proper CG, etc. I need to get someone close that is doing 2 meter, as I am in learning mode. Way it looks, they should fly easier then the 60 size.

Pushrod start, temporary hookup for servo arm's, DB FG pushrod's already made. Sullivan Gold Links, DuBro just as good, 440 rod's & retainer nut's, Sullivan clip retainer's will be used. Finished wing with final clear coat to topside, all finished, not the best, but good enough.

Start equipment Install. On board air tank behind servos, inlet and outlet. Spring-Aire valve, intake and exit to 'T' fitting's, quick dis-connet's to L & R wing, from main to NG. The 2.4 rx is laying on top of battery pack, will hide in the hold right in front of it. Remote is behind servo's, being held in place right now, it will take 3M tape to inside of fuse. I used a 12" remote rx connector. Other picture's, showing bellcrank which will mount in front of rudder servo. The steering wires will hook here, on to NG double arm, nylon tubing in front on side of fuse, already run, cut to get straight run on steering wires. Other picture's, servo's mounted. Because of clearance, servo's set in after board is in place. On bottom of servo board, where screw's hold servo's in, piece's of light ply expoxied front and rear where servo's screw in. All plug's marked with tape, all will be screwed down, brought forward along with tank tubing to air valve. Mini servo on the valve. Travel adjustment on this servo, to function valve correct minimum travel. There is clearance to move battery pack fore and aft if needed. Trying to finish this bird in next two days.

Hi KLX - You are right, just a little further. I went out and put the number's on.
Should maiden the Phoenix first of February. The Focus is sitting in the box, everything ready for it, that is a new ballgame for me. Have you been working on the Vertigo ?
This is the P-6 in gel-coat
