I have a Phoenix 8 fuse, says 1976, belly pan, firewall, wing blocks. Plans, showing the root and tip airfoils, also elevator airfoil. One foam wing severely degraded by time, but can be measured for plan view, span, and airfoil. I would trade it for a Top Flight Bonanza kit, or maybe something else interesting.

Foam wings can be ordered from: http://www.eurekaaircraft.com/foamwi...amwingmain.htm

I would guess it is an epoxy fuselage. What about some dough ?

Yes, it's epoxy, identical to your photos. Not interested in money, just looking for hard to find items. I've been wanting to buy and build a TF Bonanza for two years. I'm tired of ARFs, I haven't built anything since 2003. Something scale, trike, 60-90. I gave up looking for a TF P-39. That "auction site" is a pain to search, so many toy electrics.

zdog,

George Truett at Aztec Air has the molds for the Phoenix 8 but is presently not in the country. [link]http://www.aztecair.net/Phoenix_8.htm[/link] I'm sure George checks this forum so perhaps he will post when he'll be back in the US and produce kits.

Jon,
Looks like you ran the pipe above the wing, something I have been considering for my P7......how did that work out?

Thanks,
Jim

Truth is I have not flown it much so I cant tell you if the side mounted pipe effected flight characteristics
I can say that both Chip Hyde and Richard Verano recommended this set up and I trust those guys

Default What pipe is it?

Does anyone recognize this pipe? I have a straight and bent version for .60 ci glow. I think it's an ED been a few years (1978) and inside the outlet what are the threads for?

BTW Jon, sweet Phoenix!

Yes Ron,

Ron,

They are indeed ED Quiet Pipes. They all had those threads on the inside of the stinger (extended outlet onto which the rear silencing can fitted). I was never sure why the inside was threaded as the thread is only needed on the outside of the stinger to hold the can retaining nut. These pipes were designed by Kevin Lindsay a U Control speed flyer who realised that a double cone tuned pipe would be too peaky for R/C use and so came up with the smooth transition from one cone to the other. There may have been some good engineering reason why the inside was threaded but I suspect it was something to do with the manufacturing process.

Ok Malcolm, thanks a lot. I appreciate the info. I think I will play with it on my Phoenix 7.

Dave Brown made the ED pipes popular in the USA and World Engines imported them. I also used them while I was with World and the bent version was a good fit on a Tiporare or Curare. We also used the bent pipe on the Phoenix's. It is kind of a fragile pipe, though it was quieter then some made out of better material. Inside the pipe is a weld where the stinger that has the threads comes out of the convergent cone. That weld would often fail. Also, the muffler can that is held on with the exhaust pipe tends to come loose. If you note, in the muffler can there is that ridge just rear of where the can meets the convergent cone. That was to allow the pipe to flex when it heated up. But if it ever gets loose, the weld fails pretty quickly. Some of us started to silicone the can on to the pipe or even JB Weld it. We also started to drill and tap the exhaust piece through the stinger to keep it from backing out. But eventually they would fail. Macs Products for a while made a bent version of their muffled tune pipe to replace the ED one and it worked the same but since it was made of a harder aluminum it would ring. You could hear it more at partial throttle settings. Wish I could get a Macs Bent pipe!

I may have an extra ED and Macs bent 10cc pipe. I will look over the weekend.
