RE: Mach 1 Laser Kit Build
I completed the nose gear cover so I can get to things if I need to. There is enough room for a battery up front if needed for balance. Tail feathers and wing mounting are next. Then I can determiine the nose gear length and cut the nose gear block out. Pictures of the progress.

The stab and vertical fin are mounted. I placed a bubble level across the engine mounting beams and another on the stab saddle to check alignment before I glued everything. Everything was right on. A little finish work left on the fin then it's on to wing mounting and I may add flaps like those on the Curare to slow the Mach 1 down a bit for landing. What do you guys think about adding flaps to the Mach 1?

I added some filler pieces on the stab and fin today. Some final shaping and micro balloons should give it a nice finished look, but that is for the next update.

Crankpin, Is that a picture of a Mach One with a side mounted engine? I plan to order a Laser Tech Mach One and want to side mount the engine because they just look so much better and it tends to keep the plane cleaner of oil during flight.

RE: Mach 1 Laser Kit Build
Hi Guys,
It's been awhile since my last update so here it is. The wing, stab, fin and control surfaces have all been glassed and sanded. Fillets have been added to the fuse and shaped. I decided to do an engine change. Instead of the Webra 70 Speed I have switched to an OS 75AX. It was a bolt in. Finding a combination of prop nuts to work with the 2.25" standard Tr-Turn spinner was a challenge. I finally found the correct combination to make it work. My original plan was to use a Tru-Turn 2.25" FAI spinner, but due to the length of the OS 75AX crankshaft that was not possible.
The nose gear length needs to be established and the retract access cut in the removeable bottom block. A final sanding of the fuse and it will be ready to be glassed. I hope to have another update later this month. My goal is to have this ready for primer and paint when the weather presents an opportunity this spring. Not sure of the paint job yet. Klasskote for sure.

Hey Leo,
The yellow on your Mach 1 looks AWESOME.................! ! ! ! ! Are you going to put one of your new purple headed Novarossi monsters in it?
Take care,
David

Mach 1 Laser Kit Build
It's been too long since my last update. The Red and Blue trim colors have been added. The fuse and control surfaces have been clear coated. I will clear coat the wing on Saturday. A NovaRossi R91CR will be powering my Mach 1. It's a direct bolt in for the O/S 75 AX I had planned. After a trip to Columbus, GA/Fort Benning next week I will be ready to start the final assembly process. This is the first time I have attempted to upload images since the big change at RCU. Hopefully it will all work.

Jim,
I emailed Rhett Miller III a short time ago for some color pictures of his Compensator bottom wing detail and had no idea that he had one version that used a White base coat with the same trim scheme. The famous Yellow color picture is easy to find in the magazines, but I had no idea he had the White version since most of the pictures from back in the day were in Black & White. I did want to follow the Compensator color scheme on the Mach1. The Blue is a Federal Standard color.
Pete,
I liked the color combo too. I shot the clear coat on the wing this morning and it turned out very nice. A tip when shooting the Klasskote clear is to add a slightly greater amount of reducer than the 1:1:1. Just a little bit. The clear lays down real nice.

Leo, let me know how the NR91 performs. I am currently flying a Matt Atlas with a piped NR75, 11.5x12.5 thin prop. Amazing performer!! But the 91 should be even better. I have a GPS on the Atlas and it breaks the 150 mph mark systematically.
Let me know please, I really enjoy fast pattern planes.

Hi Leo
I thought I had responded to your PM but cannot find it here on RCU. So here it goes:
I am using the Eagletree systems GPS and data logger. It is compact and practical, but the software is very limited. It will give you the information though.
I will send you another message with questions regarding the Novarossi engines.
Best to youi!!

On the Novarossi engines. I have a C75F that needs a new rear bearing. My questions are:
1- Can you supply it? Price?
2- Is there ant special technique to remove the bearings? I have replaced bearings on several engines but these seem to be very tight. I don't want to damage the engine.
3- Would you recommend the ceramic bearing for this engine? Can you supply it? Price?
4- I also want to buy a 91 for my Matt Atlas which currently wears the 75 (with a 10mm carb). Do the 91s have the same mounting bolt pattern that the 75?
5- I see that the only difference between the 91F and the CR91 is the 10mm carb. Am I correct? I really like fast pattern airplanes and the Atlas with the 91 should be awesome, especially with CR.
Thanks!!
