Looks like a Pasqualini Ruggero "Galaxi" once kitted by Marati Models.

Looks like a Kosmo 3 or 4 depending on the wing, foam or built up?

Beautiful Kosmo!

Nice job you did on this plane.
For as far I can see this is the first picture of a finished Kosmo in the classic pattern department!
For as far as I can remember this was the Italian champion in 1974/75 and 76.
I am also building this Kosmo, and mine is an ARC version also from the late 70's
Also the retracts are the same.

How did you finish this plane, as it almost looks like an epoxy fuse, nice job!

What engine did you use?

Some more pictures and a flight report would also be very welcome :-)

Let us know how she is doing

Regards,
Gert

Default RE: Name the plane - such a nice game...!

It is a Kosmo 3, the european guys knew it of course....

Designed by italian champion Benito Bertolani in 1974, and my kit is maybe almost 30 years old. It was distributed in germany by Simprop, they also sold all the famous MK kits here.
The landing gear is a mechanically retractable spring suspension type by Mantua, from Italy, too. My Kosmo´s engine of course then is a rear exhaust Rossi .61! Pipe is just straight behind the enigne, on top of the wing.

This was the "Superfast" kit, it has a epoxi fuselage and foam core, balsa-sheeted wings and stab. The surface quality of the fuse was just awful, I sanded 2 days, applied so many spots of putty, sanded again, primed, sanded.... but now its acceptable. I do have also have another kit which has fully wooden fuselage and built-up wing.

More pics to come, has not been on the scale yet and of course I will let you know how this hottie flies. Airfoil is rather thin, I expect her to be quite fast!

Hello Speed-Panzer

Well, the 2 days of sanding really did the trick.
It looks beautifull.
At first, I was not impressed with the colour scheme on the box.
But after seeing yours on the picture I really like it!
My Kosmo is also fully built of balsa, and it is prebuilt in the factory. (foam wings and stab)
The nice touch on this ARC version is the fact that the bottem in the cockpit is covered in red leather and it has the autograph of Benettoni inside.

Did you install also the plastic retracts or did you use retracts from a different brand and used only the legs?
I had to buy the original retracts and legs (as on your Kosmo) as the wings are already prepared for these.
Looking forward to see more of this plane.
Maybe it would be nice to send a picture to CASNIFFER as there are no pictures of a finished Kosmo on the classic pattern image database

Succes and regards!

Gert

Hi daggets,

this is nice to see that other guys share another Kosmo project!
Your Kosmo has a real canopy, same as sound barrier´s does. Would you still have a picture of your kit?
What engine did you fit, and what will be flying weight?

More info about the glass fuselage Kosmo - by the way, it is of course polyester resin and no epoxi - sorry for mixing up.
Flying weight, tank empty, will be 3,6kg or just a tick below 8lbs.

Retracts have a plastic mounting frame/case and cast metal working parts. The struts seem to be rigid enough for use on grass airfield, at least for my point of view. Springs allow some shock absorbing, I am curious how it will behave.

Hello Daggets,

How can you feel ashame about such a nice KOSMO!!
Let's face it, at least you are one of the few who actually owns a finished one, and it looks great!

Please keep us informed how she flies, and ofcourse some "on the field" action pictures are always welcome!

By the way, what's the story with the 180 degrees turned noseweel (the spring is the other way around as normal)

Succes!

Gert

Hello Speed-Panzer,

Luckily you only live a few hours drive away from me, so shall I pick up your Kosmo today or tomorrow

You really did a great job, and I still have many hours of sanding to go when I wan't to have my Kosmo look as good as yours.

I plan to cover mine in G4 (epoxy)

I still have the whole thing in the box, and I slowly start working on it.

I expect my NIB OPS 60 engine, end of next week, but it does not have a rear exhaust and that looks very cool on yours!

Maybe I should start looking for a supplier for OPS exhaust bends and use a pipe also.

Any idea who supplies OPS parts?

Later today I will make some pictures of my ARC version of the Kosmo, as this is a nice thread for the Kosmo owners, and sharing info is always the nice thing of this site.

So tomorrow the pictures will be in this thread also

My retracts are the same as yours, and I really hope that they will be strong enough to take the punishment when flying of grass.

Where did you put your CG now?

Regards,

Gert

I made some pictures of my Kosmo in ARC version.

Many parts nicely prefabricated, and luckily they did not save on glue, as it is solid as a rock!

For a kit which is more than 30 years old, not bad at all!

Regards,
Gert

the spring is the other way around as normal, just because the gear goes more deeply in the wheel well this way... as says the inspector columbo, you ll be the first informed if i have something new..

with thouse gears , you must make perfects landing, as the levers are quikly at the maximum throw , and then, the structure of the airplane is higly stressed...

OPS Parts...they are treasures and they are found!

Sound-barrier,

I noticed your interest in a header and pipe for a OPS rear exhaust. I reviewed items to be published in the first issue of the "Classic Pattern-Trader", a newsletter dedicated to classic pattern parts, their location and price discovery, guess what...?

I have found a NIB OPS rear exhaust header and NIB OPS pipe in North Carolina. It can be yours as a couple of boxes are on their way to me to pick through and pass along to YOU. (PM) me for additional information.

See "Treasures sought, treasures found...more than enough to go around!" thread here on RCU, Classic Pattern.
