Scalar.. Anyone heard of this plane??
Heres some pictures of a Mini Scalar!
It may be newer than our normal planes we share here, but the lines look very reminiscent to the faster pattern planes of the 80s.
This is an electric and looking at the nose, it looks like it was never intended for an IC engine.
I was hoping someone here might know if there was a larger version and/or the manufacturer of the kit.

RE: Scalar.. Anyone heard of this plane??
I found some info on this from wvr in the Netherlands.
THe company is in Germany.
http://shop.strato.de/epages/6131678...%28Balsa%29%22
It is a "mini" at 1640mm. I guess its a mini compared to the 2m stuff. It can go glow with a 10cc or a .60ci.
It looks classic because it seems the manufacturer is into bringing some of the older style back. They have a larger plane, Flash Light, from the "hay day" that has been reintroduced and are now selling.
I guess the Classic Pattern Bug is going around... nice
DM
The Flash Light looks even nicer, I think. It is close to 2m but is classed for a 10cc
Here's some info from their web site: on the Flash:
The Flashlight 2 dates from the heyday of aerobatic F3A, predecessor of today's large models of the 2 * 2m class. The model is a purely utilitarian structure, designed for the uncompromising use in aerobatics.

RE: Scalar.. Anyone heard of this plane??
I think I found Peter's son. I'm going to ask him about Peters' Flash Light. That Is a clean looking plane.
The Scalar looks extreamly light, and has plug in wings to boot! But that landing gear has got to go!!! I can just imagine what Mike thinks of the gear. He Really doesn't like tailwheels... he's not going to be happy seeing that chunky bars sticking out the bottom of this poor little plane...

THe kit is available world wide. Thecompany doesn't stack an inventory of it so it does take a few weeks, from what I've heard.
THe cost is about fair for a newer kit of this caliber, about the going price of an MK arrow on DreamBay

Just for interest - Peter Wessels placed 15th at the 1989 World Champs (Chesapeake, USA) with the Flashlight shown.
Specs - OS Longstroke, Ansano 12X11.5, Graupner Radio, 8.1 llbs

RE: Scalar.. Anyone heard of this plane??
More info. The Mini Scalar can be built with I/C engine with internal pipe, there's even a bulge on the underside of the fuse just before the pipe would exit. You could fit an OS Hanno with Hatori 700 completely enclosed, even with the fixed gear which is optional and suitable for very good ground clearance, I'm using 15x10 with no problems. The optimal engine for this plane is either Electric or a Ys .63/Hatori short pipe combo.
The "kit" is just fuse and surfaces. The balsa covered foam wing and tail are very nice and sanded to perfection. Fuse is nice and light and molded white but you will get NO formers or wood parts, you have to make everything up. Apart from CG and incidence, there is absolutely no information about where to make stab cutout or where to make the wing tube holes.
The fuse is very light and I did not strengthen it very much so it is really broken in a very bad way. Right now I don't think I'll fix it. The Möbius 1600E I wanted to replace the mini scalar is not available so I'm forced to choose between an Angel S or make my own. I'm not gonna buy an Angel S... pictures will follow in due time. It's been a crazy-long time since I designed something so it's about time!

RE: Scalar.. Anyone heard of this plane??
Mr Jon Wold.. WoW!
Thanks for adding to the thread. You build a fine model of the Mini Scalar. So you mention that it is quite a "builders kit" and needs a bit of work? The plane is beautiful IMO.
I never heard of a Mobius or of the Angel. I'm sure others here have. I dont get too much "pattern traffic" out here. Just learn from this forum. I would love to see some pics of those planes, if there available.
I'm definately going to look into getting a Flash Light and the Mini Scalar, but I'm going to have to wait until the begining of next year at the soonest.
I was wrong about Peter's son. I had the wrong guy. [&o]

Flash Light available today and the Flash Light in the artical look a bit different side by side.
Of course, I want them both!
