Chuck,
no not for sure but in all likelihood metric and ether 3.5 or 4mm. Could be 4 on mains and 3.5 on nose. That's what the Japanese mechanicals tend to use.
This make wheel choice a little more limiting if one wants to use non metric wheels.
David.

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
I was inquiring with the thought of getting some replacement titanium struts from Central Hobbies...Looking at the PDF instructions it appears the struts mount into an alumnium block so that's cool...I can drill to the largest strut available if necessary..
I fly off a grass runway which is sorta rough so I thought the tougher struts may be an advantage...
Plus..If it works out I hope to do a set of retract wings on a 2m Black Magic so the ti struts would be great for that too... [8D]

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
Hi all this is my first post here, 3rd in total I think.
This is great news that the Phoenix 7 is making an appearance again! I remember my father using a Phoenix 5 to win a regional pattern comp here in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
On Sunday, I was lucky enough to take ownership of a MK Curare. This ship was built by my late father for a club mate about 22 years ago!! She has quite a lot of hangar rash, and the paint job needs some attention.
The owner gave her to me, with all 7 servos, MK retracts, two new battery pack he had made up for me (one for RX and one for retracts) and a OS .60 FSR with the 7-M carb (three needle). I'm absolutely ecstatic with this, I have always thought this was one of the most beautiful patternships out there.
What do you guys think the chances are of Mr Mconville and Hangar 9 producing a range of these classic planes, hopefully also a Curare?
BTW does any body know of a thread for Curares, I would like to get some info from fellow fliers?

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
Hi CG,
Welcome, and congratulations on your Curare acquisition, especially since it was built by your father!
If you like, take some pics of your Curare and start a thread about it - many here (including me!) would like to see pictures of a vintage original MK Curare. If you have any questions about the Curare or anything else related to classic pattern, don't hesitate to post, I am sure many will come forward to help as best they can.
Also, if you search this forum a bit, you'll find several threads about Curares - some are ongoing build threads like [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9287568/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm]this one.[/link]
Best regards,
George

Thanks, George
I be sure to put some pictures up of the Curare. I'm planning to see if I can start fiddling with it over the weekend.
Thanks for the welcome.

Hangar 9 Phoenix 7 ARF and E-Flite retracts...!
Update: The Fox Valley Aero Club (host club of the Chicago Classic Pattern Championships May 29, 2010) had John Redmond of the E-Flite development team speak at last weeks club meeting...here is a rough replay of the information:
Rusty: John, when do you expect the Phoenix 7 to hit the warehouse?
John: Smiling, I would have never expected you to ask that question (ha, ha, ha). The airplanes are on the way and may be here in the next 4 - 6 weeks.
Rusty: Has the pricing been finalized?
John: No, I expect a range of $300 - $350.
Rusty: When do you expect the E-Flite retracts to be available?
John: I assume with the release of the Phoenix 7.
Rusty: Can you talk about the Evolution .60/.61 short stroke engine?
John: It is an amazing motor with tons of horse power AND it is a great price! We have used the Mac's pipe and header set-up with great results.
Rusty: Will there be an example flying at the Chicago Classic Pattern Championships?
John: Yes!

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
Does anybody know when the kits are coming to South Africa? I'm super keen to get my hands on one. Also when will the Hangar 9 site be updated with the details of the kits?

One of those heavy things? A Webra or HP would be better. Considering a Fox .74 with pipe or HP Gold head with pipe. I have the latter, thought the .74 might have more omph. It says pipe ready, but wasn't the P7 without pipe tunnel?

heavy things??? the SF is one of the most popular classic pattern engines. it is a powerful big torque engine. and i don't know that i've ever seen an HP mentioned here in the classic pattern forum. although i have one that runs very well. and couldn't a side exhaust, a long header and an underwing mounted pipe work?

Now you're talking an O.S.! And a tunnel in P-7? I'm pretty sure no P-5, 6, or 7, ever had a tunnel. At least not a standard one. Still, I like those Rossis'!

I have an HP 61 with Perry directional porting (PDP). Great engine, but you'd need a 20oz tank to last 8 minutes. It's a VERY thirsty engine.

Sure an under wing pipe works. But what do they mean by pipe ready? I have second thoughts about a Fox that is not under cowl.

Yes heavy, about 24-25 Oz. with stock muffler. HP was about 20 with muffler. HP 17 without, OS SF 19 without.
However I was thinking it was even heavier. Perhaps because they weighed more than an FSR, but apparently not much more.
