That's a good question. It surprises me that they would change the name in order to sell it in a different country. Don't forget that it is "Stable enough for the Novice", according to the box's marketing print!

The Mach 1 is a super plane. I had one and have not been able to fly one that is any better. Are these kits still available over seas?

You can get a short kit here (you still need to get the plans from RCM):

Hi,

It was a Mach Sport on ebay recently but since I was not able to determine if it was a Mach 1 or not just made one bid (and did not win it). Anyway I have a Mach 1 short kit with canopy, foam wing+stab+plan on order from Eureka aircraft but have not got it yet, so I will be able to build one that way. I built a Mach 1 in 1975-1976 and it flies very good(I had a Rossi 60 with pipe, Goldberg retracts and EK logictrol Super Pro 7 ch radio). I like to build one again now.

The one I had was outfitted with rom-air retracts, Pro-line single stick 7 channel and linear servos, and using an OS gold head sixty without pipe and I flew it from 1972 to 1974. I've gone blank on what happened to it. I did have for a while a Sweet Tater by Dr. Don Coleman that was kitted by Southern RC, but sold it due to the need of funds for, would you believe $375 dollars. Kind of wish now that I still had it. O well. I'll think about the short kit idea your offering. I appreciate the information.

Thanks Ed. That looks like a super kit. I have a nib OS 91 4c that would be perfect for this plane. What do you think?

Hi Terry,
You might get better perspective from reviewing Leo's build thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_85..._1/key_/tm.htm

He is using a .70 2S .... so you might need a little more width at the firewall. Most of the SPA guys running OS .90 4S engines are just widening the fusealage a bit on these 70's pattern birds that were originally running (and designed for) .60 2S engines. It is not that apparent when you look at them. Should be a simple mod to the firewall width and one or two formers.

Mine will be electric ..... so I will use the stock width.

I dont remember that one at all. But, looking at the pic, it seems to have a thicker airfoil at the tip than the Mach 1. Perhaps a thicker wing was used to slow it down and make more "stable" vs. the Mach 1?
Just a theory at thid point though...

There is no such thing as a Mach "Sport". The original poster's picture shows black tape over the "1".

Damn...
If I had known that I would have made a higher bid on the Midwest Mach .... 1 on ebay (adertised as Mach Sport in the ebay ad). The winning bid was US $133.50.

Midwest Mach 1 kit is very rare to find so it will probably take some time before it is possible to try to bid on one again.
Now it is clear to me how the ebay ad should have been interpreted:

Ad was: "MACH SPORT R/C AIRPLANE BY MIDWEST PRODUCTS NIB"
Since the "1" had black tape over it the seller did not know it was suppose to be "Mach 1".
So thead was actually meant to be read:"MACH"... "SPORT R/C AIRPLANE BY MIDWEST PRODUCTS NIB"
I just could not figure that out then.

Thanks for the answer Jeff.

There are a couple of guys selling short kits of the Mach 1. I got my short kit from Eureka Aircraft.
I bought the Norm Page plans from MAN, and the Cores, short kit (cut wood pieces) and canopy from Eureka and I'm happy with the quality of the parts I received.
http://www.eurekaaircraft.com/pattern.htm

"GlockGuy" here on RCU is doing a build of a built up wing version from Laser Technologies.
