My new Taurus
This was a lucky find at a swap meet 4 or 5 years ago. It sat in my barn till a few days ago when I got inspired, pulled it down and put gear in it. I'm using an Evolution .52, JR 821 servos and X9303 tx.
From the hardware on it my guess is this one was built in the 70's. It seems whoever originally built it was quite a craftsman. My guess is it had another owner or two judging by a few repairs but its in pretty good shape. All painted finish.
Anyone recognize it or know who the original builder could be?
Flew it today. It was a lot of fun!! My dad built several Taurus' in the 60's and I have vague memories of a few of the later ones when I was very young. I'd never flown one till this morning. Flies well, and landing speed is very slow. I couldnt find a stall, it just keeps slowing down.
Cant wait to fly it some more.

Nice looking Taurus
I consider the Taurus to be the first "modern" pattern plane. It was a real trend-setter back in 1962, with many other designs following its lead with a short nose moment and long tail moment. It is probably the most famous pattern plane kit of all time, (if not the most famous kit ever produced world-wide). The Taurus still makes a great sport plane, and because it was designed afor pattern, it flys decidedly better than many.
It's simple, straight-forward, upgradable, (can be modernized), and easy to fly. Jeff from HomeandHobbySolutions still produces a Taurus replica as a laser-cut kit.

Mike, that plane has a very Jim Grier look, Jerry Nelson would be the person who could tell you.
Although I'm a fan of the original red/white/black trim scheme, I do like the yellow in place of the red.

RE: My new Taurus
Right Free Bird. He did a variation of the Taurus, if I can remember. The plane's I saw him fly, were always painted black and green. Mike, the black on that Taurus, could be his application ? Jimmy's engine's were inverted, and he did use some ST RV's back in those day's, could never get them to idle. I have a picture of Jimmy here if anyone wants me to post it.
IMO, the Taurus started it all, then the Zeus glass fuse from Hartman, fit the Taurus wing, then everything else.
Nice Taurus Mike, Duane, your's too.
