Default Dr. Jekyll

Hi,

I have a question about Dr. Jekyll F3A plane. It was World Champion model 1991 flown by Chip Hyde (Classic pattern time frame, pre 1996). Was R/CCity the only that made a kit of Dr. Jekyll?
And how good was that kit and the flying characteristics? (I assume no drawings was made of Dr. Jekyll to scratch build from?)

/Bo

Bo,

send Chip (passport1) a PM. It's his design.

This is Sad...After all these years...I am just now putting the Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde thing together...Jeezzzze...

I'm thinkin' you can still get one if you want one...I kinda want one too but have enough stuff for now...It's on the "wish list" though...

If I were gonna ask a guy where I might be able to get a Dr. Jeckyll I would send this fellow a P.M...[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/community/profile.cfm?section=profile&forum=1&memid=40474]PatternPilot[/link]...He might be able to steer you in the right direction...

Have Fun...

Chip followed up the Jekyll design with the HYDEout and the HYDEaway. All were great flying planes.

Don't forget the Dr. Jekyll PhD

I loved my Jekyll's and out-flew them past their effective life in F3A. My first Team Trials in Corvalis, OR in 93 was the first time I saw them. Chip brought his and did the judges warm-up flights. I knew right then what my next planes were going to be. I sold one after 5 years of flying it and I think it's still flying in TX somewhere (or was) and I don't remember what happened to the other [&:] Flying one of these today in the lower 3 classes would be fine, even Masters capable if someone really wanted to. It was in a class by itself when it came out (IMO).

Pattern Tek also made a Dr. Jekyll but I don't remember the story behind it. I'm sure once Chip is done with the Argentina Nats he'll pop in here and brief us on everything.

Sorry about the picture quality but I have all but worn out this part of the old VHS tape.

The rolling elements at the start of this flight set the standard (for me) of smooth, precise flying. I spent hours rolling from end to end and kicking the knife edges with my Curare.

I'd almost give my left whatzit for a plan.

I have an original set of drawings that came with the RC City Jekyll. The fuse drawing is not full size but I think the sheet with the wing and stab is. If anyone wants them to try and produce one from scratch their welcome to them.

Seventies Flier, it's a shame you're in the US and I'm in Oz otherwise I'd jump at it.

Rendegade, you're correct, it's Wangaratta world champs '91.

That webra certainly wasn't quiet nor turning in the mid 9K's.........

Alot of you have been asking for pictures of the Jekyll. This is the R/C city short kit. It does come with 2 sets of wing cores, one set is approx. 1 1/2" longer and wider depending on how many sq in. you want. Some one ask to borrow the fiberglass chin to make a mold, I do not want to take the risk of loosing this one. I do have a Jekyll that was being stripped down to repaint that I may use for a mold though. Enjoy the pictures.

Rich,

thanks for your PM and these photos. It does help to know what's in the kit. By the way, I assume that other than the two wing option and stab cores along with the fuse there are no other hardware or wood items? I seem to recall that R/C City kits were sold as "builders kits" (i.e., no wood or hardware).

David.

You are correct David, the only wood in the kit is the firewall and misc. hardwoods. You would have to furnish all the balsa needed to complete the airframe. There is a Gator products wing tube included in kit along with 2 sets of wing cores,1 set of stab cores and 1 rudder core. 1 rolled set of wing plans (full scale) and 1 set for the fuselage (scaled down)

I have the 2 meter 1.40 size version sitting in my shed for a while now...Has no engine in it..I'm not sure what to do with it these days... Maybe i'll get it flying, maybe not...It is one of the best flying planes i've ever flown next to my Desafio II and MK Chipmunk.
